Aluminum?I've been busy with school and work and other expensive hobbies so I haven't been on here in a while, but I'm nearing the end of a build so I figure I should start a thread on it. I'll start with the materials.

I haven't looked into that, I have a friend that works at a place with a laser so I might get a discount. If I do it, it will be a full 4 x 8/10 sheet and I'll build a few to sell.Sweet! Looking forward to this
As to future fabrication, CNC water jet cutting is generally cheaper than laser.
It's a tiny Alcoa? But flat?
As for the burn-though, this is (an example of) why you make use of the scrap to practice on before diving right into the instrument, whenever possible. Any process you are doing for the first time on the actual instrument is likely to be not as good as the processes you have tuned on things that don't matter...
Oh I did practice quite a bit, I just messed it up when it actually counted. I really hate spool guns.
