Bad Singers who made it

No one has yet mentioned Rita Coolidge. I'm sure she's a nice lady, but all her tunes on the "Mad Dogs and Englishmen" LP were sung very flat.
my disagreement was mainly in reference to adrian belew, john wetton and jack bruce mainly. the thread was for bad singers. when i think of a bad singer i think of someone who doesnt know their limits and doesnt satisfy the role that they are in. adrian belew and john wetton were/are great singers for king crimson. they wouldnt cut it in some situations but why does that matter when they are not putting themselves in those situations?
For this thread i'd consider a bad singer as one who is offkey, has bad timing or similar. i feel the nature of the thread is to point out those who do something badly but still do it at a professional level (position wise, not quality of the product). the fact that musicians have different limits is not really in the spirit of the thread imo, but maybe everyone else feels differently.

Funny how I love Leonard Cohen's voice, it sound so powerful at the same time it can show how fragile he feels.
I'm going to add Whitney Houston to this list (if nobody has mentioned her already). I don't think the word "dynamics" is in her dictionary.

Sorry to raise the dead here but I just read 8 pages of 'Bad singers who made it' and did not see one mention of Billy Corgan... This injustice must not be ignored!

Troy Sanders from Mastodon. Love the dude but everyone else in the band can run circles around him in the vocal department.
I love to argue about this, since I consider Dylan the top rock'n'roll singer. It's a given that he never could have had operatic ambitions (although he surprised everybody with his sonorous tones on Nashville Skyline). He's a speech-singer, but he still can pitch. What he has in spades is intensity, projection and a unique, witty way of phrasing that manages to be musical and swinging even over the densest lyrics. Also, good humor and a great deal of self-irony.

Interesting you put those two together. Maybe it's just me but when No Doubt came out I thought Gwen's voice was a ringer for Dale Bozzio. It took me back to those Missing Persons records, big-time.
One that most of you folks probably haven't heard of, but Albert Kuvezin in Yat-Kha.
Personally? I absolutely love his voice. Love it completely. But I can really see how a lot of folks would hate it.

Yeah, I remember old Bolton's supremely tasteless version of Georgia On My Mind. Talk about over-emoting. Wasn't he a Russian guy who became americanized somehow?
