Bad Singers who made it

That singer in Dragonforce sucks. I think the band sucks, but thats my opinion. All of their stuff sounds identical.

I find AC/DC to be talentless musicians who sound the same in every song.

It's rock, it's meant to be like that.

I kind of like singers who don't sing "well" in the traditional sense. Examples?

Tom Waits, Shane MacGowan, Joe Strummer, Frank Black and Kim Deal, Iggy Pop, JJ Burnell, Diamond Dave (AAAAAAAH YAAAAAAAAAAAGH!!!!!), Ozzy etc...

Billy Corgan though... as much as I like the old, 90's Pumpkins records, that dude's voice just irritates me.

Sonic Youth being one of my favorite bands, I'll wholeheartedly agree that Kim Gordon, Thurston Moore, and Lee Renaldo are not great vocalists. Poets who just can't sing. Do I love Sonic Youth any less for that? Not at all.

I agree with you on Sonic Youth, one of my favorite bands by the way, another is Dinosaur JR. Both bands get there appeal from being far from perfect both musically and vocally.

Thought I would bump this thread and add the lead singer of the "Break out band of 2008" Five Finger Death Punch. I don't know if its that the guy can't sing or I just dislike his voice. Either way I don't see how they made it with those vocals.

Ivan Moody's actually a fairly good singer, IMHO. While I personally quite enjoy his vocals on Five Finger Death Punch's stuff, I think his singing voice is really showcased on the Ghost Machine song "Burning Bridges." It may just be me, but I really like his stuff.

I'll agree with ZP Theart though, I'm just not a fan.

Joe Lynn Turner- horrible range, atonal live
Graham Bonnet- bad with Rainbow, and just bloody Gawd-awful with Alcatrazz!
Ian Gillan- when good singers go bad.....

The exceptions to that rule are Ronnie James Dio- now, there's one hard rockin' hobbit- and Glenn Hughes /The Voice of Rock.

My wife was watching the Ellen Degeneres (sp?) show the other day and they had Akon (hip-hop singer) on singing some song of his. I've heard the original and its heavy with the auto-tuner. Well, apparently for the live show he didn't bring the auto-tune and it was absolutely horrible. He wasn't even close. Its one thing to be a little sharp/flat, but he wasn't even close to being in the right key. How do these people get deals?
