To my ear, yes. Mon/Puma is a bit edgier and the noise floor is a tad higher. In a busy mix probably not that noticeable but alone I can hear a difference. Feel is comparable. Both power amps seem to have a fair amount of oomph.

Baer Amplification Megathread!

...Roger besides the Valkyrie coming, any other plans for some compact cabs? Perhaps a compact 12 or a Compact 10/6??
For me, I would love to carry 2 - ML112's but they wont fit in the trunk of my car with my other gear, thats why I picked up the PJ Compact4 for now to go with the ML112. Unfortunately loading gear in the back seat is not an option for me because many times I leave straight from work to my gigs, so I need the equipment concealed.
So if no compact cabs are in your plans Roger, anyone else have any suggestions for a compact cab that might mate well with the ML112 (besides the Berg CN112)?

Nothing planned in the near future. To me, the ML112 is a compact cab. Going to a smaller box means dealing with the physics that come with stuffing a woofer into less cubic feet of cabinet space. Always trade offs to be made. Not to say that I won't make a smaller cabinet, but if we do something smaller, it probably won't be in the single 12 format. I've been kicking around an idea for a 210 cab that could end up trunk sized, but I've got my plate pretty full at the moment, so it may be a while.

Understood and I need to remember the old days and stop being a wuss! The days when I would lug around my Earth bass head and Earth double 15 cab. I think that cab weighed like 125 lbs!
So I'll stop my whining or if I want to keep whining, I'll leave the bass home and become a lead singer! Ha!
I've tried most every small/light cabinet out there. The one that has stuck is the ML112. There is a break point as you shrink and no magic can fool physics (especially toast physics).

I have never had any trouble with lack of mids and highs, and I have certainly had no trouble with the low end being mushy or boomy. Maybe it's the fact I only play Dingwalls, although I loved my Warwick Dolphin I through it as well. Maybe it's because I use an Uber 410 and not a 12.
Maybe I don't have a clue what's good bass tone!

It is a fantastic amp, but it 'sounds like it does'. If you like that 'GK upper mid aggressive grind and upper treble sizzle' like Chef, it definitely would not be the head for you. Very different thing.
Here is an older clip I did of the Streamliner and the ML112, just FYI. That is a VERY good combination, with the fat, smooth, upper mid relaxed tone of the Streamliner wonderfully in yanging with the tight low end and bright upper mids of the ML112. Really works well for those looking for a 'vintage meets modern' vibe in lightweight rig!

LOL! Please I was not implying that at all! I do think the STM900 is a really good amp, but I do agree it's the type of amp that is totally responsive to the cab used with it, bass, your technique, etc.
I have no issue with the mids when using the amp because I dial them in with my Fodera anyway. I do think GB missed the mark by making the mid frequencies fixed and not sweepable. At least they provided you with a selection of 3 mid frequencies, but for me, I would have preferred 400hz and 800hz instead of 250hz and 600hz, but thats just my preference/opinion.
I do think the low end is big on the STM900, but a bit cloudy for my taste, and I don't believe it has anything to do with the ML112 because while it is a big sounding cab, it is also smooth, tight, articulate, and punchy in the low end, definitely not boomy or cloudy.
However, I did some tube rolling last night. I know, I know, some of you disagree but... I am a Broadcast Engineer by trade so perhaps my ear is a little more sensitive to subtle changes since I have to focus on every nuance during a broadcast, but I noticed a relevant difference when rolling tubes, not drastic, but relevant enough for my taste. I put in a Jan Phillips NOS 5751 in V1, and a preferred series 7025 in V2 and V3. It definitely made the low end a little less boomy, my notes were clearer, and I noticed it to have less noise/hiss as well (the amp is pretty quiet already, but it did have some noticeable noise before the tube change.... Or maybe I'm just crazy!
I love that it is a high voltage class a preamp which you can get a lot of drive and punch out of it; almost similar to my Read pre.
All and all, I think its a very good amp, especially with the tube changes.

I realize you're just kicking around the idea for a 210, but I'm wondering what you feel a 210 could bring to the table. 112 and 212 configurations seem to be the hot topic lately. I own a pair of 210 cabs and I'm curious to hear your perspective on pros and cons of 10s vs. 12s within the context of the Baer cab offerings.
Honestly, a lot of it comes down to marketing and trying to come up with products our customers want to see. Right now, I have been focused on a small line up that I think covers a lot of basses, but there's no denying that a lot of players love their 10" loaded cabs. So, just like I have tried to do with our other cabinets, it then becomes a matter of wrapping my head around this and trying to figure out what we can bring to the table that you can't get from every other cabinet maker out there. I think a 210 with our mid driver might have a unique twist on the format. The big question for me is whether or not the cab could work for this group without a tweeter in it.
Funny thing for me is over the years, I was always a 10's guy, and really disliked 12's, except for my B12 Portaflex. I also have the Epifani UL2x12 and I never use it, too scooped for me. The ML112 is the first 12 I ever liked, let me rephrase that, LOVE!
I don't miss my 10's at all... And I had them all over the years.
Well except maybe for my mesa boogie 4x10 roadready cab circa '92. That was one killer cab, but it killed your back too!
Thanks for the link! I really dig this combination, and you illustrate it very well. I am almost certain to pick up a Baer cab. I just can't make up my mind which one. I am kind of holding out for the 115 at the moment.
And I was really just poking some fun at myself! I really may NOT know what good bass tone is! But as they say, ignorance is bliss!

I know dude! It's all good. I was really making fun of me. But it is funny because when I hear all of these descriptions of the tone, I can't help but wonder why I don't hear the same thing!
It may very well be that I happen to have an ideal combination of basses (Dingwalls in general do have a very P-bass-esque mid range and a very clear and distinct low-end) and the Uber 410 which perhaps tightens the low- end a bit more.
Or, as I suggested, I am just clueless!
