Bag End cabs

Thanks! The Bags aren't your typical 15's that have that sort of hole in the mid frequency spectrum. They are very present in the mids (I'm all about midrange!), and IMO/IME, have great high mids and great top end extension. They really are more like 12's in that regard. They also have a really nice top end - no need for a tweeter. They definitely have more going on in the upper mids than say my NV215 with the 6" rolled off or say an Orange OBC115. They really don't sound like any other 15 I've played through. You should have no problem punching through the mix in a live situation, and I think the tight low end should keep you out of trouble with stage rumble. They are also loud as hell.

From one midrange brother to the another, thanks! And Sold. I might even get three of them! And if I may go off topic a bit? That preamp you got would be amazing if it had a simple crossover and mixer built in so you could blend the dirty and clean signals. Clean lows and crunchy highs.

I actually had three of them stacked vertically for a while since a couple of my power amps go to 2.7 ohms. Here's a picture:

Thanks for the compliments on the preamp. There is actually a clean, pre-EQ output which gives you the ability to run separate clean and dirty signals - there are a couple of videos of it. The preamp itself has a parallel gain structure which blends the clean full range signal with a more overdriven midrange to keep things focused. Enough off topic... ;)

I would eventually like to get a pair of S15L-D's which are a bit bigger than the normal 15D's, but not huge like B-D's. Supposed to add a bit more low end beef. A 4X BE setup would kill!

You're the man! I couldn't remember your handle of the top of my head! They are still on my GAS list! Got any sound clips or videos? I've saved the pictures of your rig you originally posted - a think of beauty!

My only gigging rig for 15 years was a GK 400RB through a BagEnd S15-D. Admittedly I was mostly playing upright acoustically and not playing much electric over those years, but it was amazing to me how much volume came out of that rig when I did need to go electric.

I have recently reverted back to my electric bass roots and find the BagEnd 15 box makes a sweet little bottom to the Berg HT210 I picked up for a nice loud, articulate, mini rig, powered by a 500w class D mini head. After 18 years owning the BagEnd I will replace the driver soon, but that's par for the age.

Must add - big props to the powered versions of these things.

At NAMM I had use of a powered Q10BX-D, S15-D and S21E-C - they ALL delivered in spades.

My fave was the 15 on top of the 21 - jiggled the giblets quite nicely, particularly at the 13 Hz I was running.

He said "giblets"....:D

If that's the Berg HT210 (not "S") which is 18" deep, it would have a lot more deep bass than the BagEnd 15" "cube cab" (not the S15B-D monster).

When I first posted to this thread I hadn't put my S10X-D coax through the wringer, just used it with the coax S15 on low to medium volume Jazz gigs. Since then I've used that stack at much larger venues and it's flat out amazing. That little ten adds something that the second 15 doesn't which is why I prefer this stack to the S15-D/S15X-D (I aslo have an S15 and D10X-D).

I also now have a coax/non coax S10 stack and that is one sick puppy too.

As far as power handling I'ved used the bigger (relatively speaking) stack with my Yamaha PB1/Crown Drivecore XLS1000 bridged at 1100@4 ohms and it's all fun and games. I've gotten way too loud at sound checks with no sign of distress.

I still try out the latest and greatest just to see if the bar has actually been raised. Between these cabs, my Euphonic Audio VL110 cabs and my Nahas 1-15/1-12 stack, I'm still happily standing pat. Full bodied, clear, with plenty of thump.

As far as the lack of tweeter controls, since I never need more (plenty of zing) I can dial back at my bass or amp/preamp. No problem. And the BE high frequency implementation sounds way more natural to me.

babebambi: Just to be clear, my Berg HT210 is only 12" deep. The BE is the 18x18 box, 16" deep. I stack the Berg vertically on the BE, with both cabs 18" wide in that configuration. Cool little rig. Both cabs have same carpet, corners, and grill too so they even look matched. It'll work until I find my Berg HT115.

I think it does, but hey, it's my video so I may be biased. ;) A lot of my videos were shot with that pair, so hopefully you can get a good idea of their tone going through a few of them since various levels of OD and EQ settings were used. Don't be afraid of the 15's - they sound more like twelves in their quickness, rich midrange, and great top end. The Bags are very musical - warm, with some nice grind to them. They handle a lot of power, and stay tight even when you crank the bass way up.

The beginning of these have the preamp set flat

That sounds great! Growly.

I see, you have a HT210S. Two Berg HT115's on TB classify now FYI (not mine).

Two S15B-C's (black ratfur rather than oxblood). In this photo, a G-B GBE600, but lately I have run a Shuttle6.0 with it. No, the photo is NOT reversed...I am lefty.

Unreal sound. Plenty of lows (obviously) but still "tight" lows. And surprisingly plenty of mids and highs. This is my favorite single speaker. I bought one, liked it so much that I bought a second one. Indoors, one will always do the trick. I cannot use both unless outdoors (about 6-8 times per year).

I am thinking about breaking my personal rule to never mix and match driver sizes because a D12 on top of a S15 smells like a great idea. Or is it?

My amp, and any other amp I am currently interested in will do 2 ohms.
I can break the rig up for different types of gigs/sounds and fit it into a car.
The SPL is the same for both cabs.
I would love the vertical nature of the complete stack.

Has anyone tried this combination of cabinets? Do you think I would gain anything over a stack of two S15's tonally?
