Interestingly, the plywood is a finer quality. More plies and a smoother grain than my other.

Nice! If I remember correctly(and counted on a corner of mine), the older birch cabinets were a 13 ply plywood. The ones covered with carpet were, like, a 9 ply, because the look of the wood was covered, and protected, by the carpet? Maybe they mixed some up?

The nicer of the two is still of a lower quality than the birch cabs. There are biscuit shaped patches on the knot voids and such. Good quality wood, must not at the same
Cosmetic level.

I’m sure this has been asked a million times, but in 25+ years of using BE cabs I’ve never needed to know…What Eminence speaker is closest to the E12 in the S12 & D12? They don’t make/sell E12 speakers at Bag End any longer. No reconing either.

Is this statement or a question?

The current models are S12B and D12B with frequency response to 52hz-5khz (same as the old cabs). Outside dimensions are only above by 0.5inch, which may just be the difference between carpeted and wood exterior. Maybe the same exact tuning with a new Neo driver.

Listed driver is the E12F Neo driver. It's expensive at $361, but it looks like it is available.

If you want to keep the original tuning/voicing, I suggest inquiring about this driver.

The old drivers are definitely not available anymore. I talked to Bag End yesterday. The new neo drivers are a bit different sounding according to them.

For some reason I thought the E12 and E15 drivers were based sort of on the eminence Delta. At least that’s what I have heard several times in the past. I figured somebody here might know.

I never did get a straight answer on them... no model number listed that I can see. The sound slightly different in my limited use in my room here (covid number jumps paused my band hunt)... but they are in a very similar tone range of my first D12-B.

My guess is the new Bag End Neo should be a drop in replacement. It appears the internal volume of the current cabs, are identical or near identical to the old cab. So it's just a matter of confirming the port dimensions are also the same on the new cabs.

I did not. I’m guessing if they didn’t tell you they won’t tell me. I’m probably just gonna go the Neo Route. When it’s all said and done I should be cranking four 12s as well. Although in my case there are two S12 cabinets which I’ve had for years plus the newly acquired D12
