While I was looking for empty S12 or S15 boxes this local guy had a couple of cabinets for a ridiculous price.

I've had a chance to put a pair of S15-Ds through their paces in a band setting. The combination of price, performance and portability on these things is amazing. This is coming from a guy who bought a Mesa Subway 12" and 15", then promptly took them back to the store based on their sound.

Lesson learned - don't judge a product based on the bandwidth it takes up on TB.

That’s so funny, I had a similar situation. I was convinced the Mesa stuff was what I needed after reading through the subway cub thread. I tried a bunch of Mesa heads and cabs and couldn’t find a sound I loved. I ended up getting a good deal on an Aguilar AG700 and then had some used Bag End 15’s come though my local Guitar Center and I bought them on a whim. After a few shows I can say that I’ve never been happier with my tone.

That makes sense to me and probably wouldn't be too hard to implement once you have the ring. You just attach the ring to the speaker and crank the ring down with the four aluminum mounts, I would assume. I just did a quick Google search and there are plenty of adapters made for that purpose. Like this one. Or this.

Jim at Bag End replied “use the 4 threaded holes that the speaker mounting clamps attach to for bolting the ring to the cabinet and then mount the 12" speaker inside the ring.”

I really love the Mesa Subway Heads and find they work great with the Bag End Cabs. I dig the subway cabs as well but they are voiced very differently than the Bag End ones.

I have found that the cabinets work well with any amp.

I've run the head of a early 70s B-15 fliptop, AMP stuff, high wattage power amps with random pre amps, borrowed old school GK, monster Peavey 400 watt tube head, little 2x6L6 guitar head, and now my current 200 watt all tube Ashdown. They have excelled with all of them.

Comparing the Fifteens The Subway has more low end extension but the Bag End S15 has a more present and articulate midrange. The BE is punchier, but the Subway is fuller. ~ YMMV

I agree with that. I played Bag Ends for decades, mostly paired with GK heads. I sold my last pair last year in favor of the Subways.

In other news, the ZE-12E 12” speakers from “the lab” that Jim at Bag End sold me are very impressive. Currently I have one in one of my S12 cabinets and it has a girth that none of my other cabinets have. (25# worth). It doesn’t have the presence of a normal BE 12. It’s more of an adjunctive speaker more than anything else. But what an addition! It sounds really good paired up with a standard S12 cabinet with the normal E12. Now I’m just looking to see if I can find a couple of empty S12 boxes!

So glad I was able to secure a pair of S15L-Ns before the switch over to neo. IMHO they are worth the 52lbs in gold.

Thanks. I ordered them direct from Bag End last November and had to wait a little over a month for them to be built. The delay was in the spraying of the covering.

Yeah, you're going to hear a big difference with the coax driver. They both sound great stand alone and paired they are just Magic!

Thanks James! I was sound testing a new Alembic with several of my amps. All the amps sound great but this one...man it's on another level! The F-1X with an old yamaha P series is still my favorite but this 300T copy is tone BEAST!

I have a pair of 15” cabs in central Pennsylvania for sale if anyone is interested. I’m happy to drive an hour or two which would be half way to Philadelphia, Pittsburg, D.C., Baltimore, etc.

Took a while but I finally did a straight up comparison of the D12 With the E12F neo replacement speakers against two S12 cabs with the long standard E12 speakers.

With everything plugged in at once at first it sounds as if the E12s are a bit louder. But doing the A/B comparison you realize they’re not, they just have a little bit more upper mid presence. Do the Faital 12PR300 (aka E12F) speakers have more low end? Maybe, But if they do it’s subtle.

A tiny bit of EQ gives the neo drivers that E12 bite. The 4x12 rig sounds massive and aggressive.
