I’ve been using my S15D pair lately, but I came across another Bag End cab locally on CL recently and I’m pondering the idea of unleashing this stack on the world this coming weekend. Think it will be “enough”?

Only the drummer is truly “bonkers”, LOL. He has a hybrid kit with an array of electronics that rivals NASA Mission Control in its complexity, but also has a subwoofer on stage next to his kit. I need to hold my own and the S15B-D (with the port open) and a S15D on top just might get me there!

To be honest, after I first realized that what I got was a guitar oriented cab, I was thinking of getting rid of it or modify it with more powerful (in regard to RMS rating), bass specific speakers, but more I play it more I like it!
I fell in love with that cab an became Bag End fanboy in process!

Awesome! Are you running the S15B-D port open or closed? I’d be interested in your thoughts if you’ve tried it both ways!

I have it open. I have two of the big cabs and when I have used them together, they are much "tighter" and "controlled" with the ports closed but when using one, I find the deep lows are "just right". The deep lows can get out of hand on certain floors/stages by causing feedback (rumble) through the mic stands but if you're on solid ground, it gives you the feeling of a huge front of house with out actually being in one. Great cab, my favorite!

I wasn't able to find a 18D cabinet so I used a SWR Big Ben for this rig. It really pushes the lows!

I used a S15-DB under a S15-D a few times. Def gave sort of a FOH effect with the smooth lows. It was a bit too much weight to haul for me though, so I passed the big box to someone who was ok with the haul. I did keep my cubes though, and in fact used one last weekend to great effect with a guitar/keys trio.

Currently using bergantino and epifani which are great in their own right but I miss the compact S15 for its volume loudness and portability

I left for a couple other higher end brands and circled back too... nothing wrong with the others, they just weren't BE

I spent so long needing to buy high power amps in order to drive power hungry low bass cabs like the greenboy Fearful and others
With such an efficient S15 or two i can even consider getting a Mesa Walkabout again

The circle is complete. Been looking for a little red S10 box for a LONG time, and this one just happened to turn up at my local GC. Perfect biamp partner for the 800RB and Acoustic 361.

I have the S12R (I think that's what it is called) guitar cab, with the red dot cone. I've not done much more than test it for functionality -- I need to try a few different amps with it, or more importantly, get a real guitarist to try it!

Just got my first Bag End. Picked it up last night, and haven't even plugged it in yet. I've been BE curious for years.
Easy schlep - absolutely no worse than my neo Berg 210 or the 112's that I've previously had.
If I love it, then of course I will add a second cab.

I've recently been introduced to Goose and looped myself back to Umphrey's and Phish as an extension. I am happy to see that both Trevor from Goose



and Ryan from Umphrey's are both Bag End users (well Trevor has logos removed)

Used my new-to-me Bag End S15-D on the gig this past Friday.

First set I used a 60w all tube head, but then switched over to my Streamliner amp for the next two sets.
Really nice cab.

I just had an interesting thought today. I am very fond of The lightweight Mesa Subway series of amplifiers and using them for at least a couple of years. Every so often people talk about how to keep them from vibrating off of their speakers. Sometimes this comes up with other lightweight D class heads.

I have never had a problem with this and I’m wondering if the exceptional rigidity of the Bag End cabinets has anything to do with this?

hey folks - is there any advantage to buying Bag End speakers used other than price? Are they making them exactly as they did in the past?

not exact, but similar enough to be the same. Not sure the current status, but my recent D12-B has different port sizes and drivers compared to my old one. They had Covid related supply issues and sourced new (and improved?) 12" drivers. I've A/Bed both with 2 different heads and I'm not hearing significant differences between. I know @IvanMike has done similar with the new drivers and might have a more sensitive ear.

Yeah, I really haven’t checked out the newer cabinets with the cool purple coding. I think the birch cabinets might be pretty close to the same as the old ones.

think the biggest difference you will find is the Neo drivers they use now. You can buy those from them or from the manufacturer. I did some replacements in cabinets that I had to save on weight and there’s not a huge sound difference. To my ears, there is slightly more low end with the neo speakers, and they don’t quite have as much upper mid range presence as the old ones. these are things that a tiny bit of EQ instantly makes moot. Very often you will find older Bag End cabinets with different aftermarket drivers in them anyway. Anytime you can find one I would say pick it up. Unless it’s been beat to hell, and even then for the right price… Very often you can find them relatively cheap simply because they are heavy. Even changing the speakers to a neo driver They’re going to be much heavier than a lot of other cabinets because they are built with really thick wood. Also makes them damn near indestructible.
