Bag End Club.

Question for those Bag End users who are familiar with the S10. I was thinking of grabbing one as a standalone cab for home studio/practice use or the occasional jam/coffeehouse gig… no Marshall stacks to compete against. Will this cover those needs, and can it handle a low b fairly well? It will be powered by a baby sumo power amp (300w @ 8ohms) through a Berg pre.

Any input is greatly appreciated!

I have some experience with these cabinets. I have one for a very long time and have paired it with a Quilter BB800, Aguilar TH700 and MESA WD800. It’s my at home practice cabinet for a few years. I actually now have 4 of them and will use them all as a scalable 4x10. I have no idea how it will sound but I can’t imagine it being bad since these cabinets IMHO are great. I have used the single 10 on many small shows with good volume levels and they always deliver.. I can’t answer your question about live gigs and a 5 string since I rarely play 5 string basses on my shows…but at home the 5 string bass sounds great. I’ve heard 2 with a 5 string and it’s awesome. ( some guy sat in with a 5 and I got to hear them from the audience.)
Check with Bag End.. they might have NOS available.. speak to Craig if you can.. very knowledgeable

An S15 question. Is the ZE-15 exactly the same driver as the E-15? I have older S-series cabinets in black tolex, one of which needs a new driver replaced. I got a recone kit and tried to do it myself but found out the expensive way what repairs are beyond my abilities. So a new driver it will be, I'd rather not go with the new neo if possible, but rather with the older spec.

I don’t think so, you would have to ask BE.

I did swap some old drivers for the NEO they use (although I did buy mine cheaper elsewhere). I found the tone difference to be minimal. Slightly bigger low end, slightly less high mids, but nothing that a tiny EQ adjustment didn’t change back if I wanted.

That D10-D is a beautiful sounding box. I played through one for well over twenty years and now my son is gigging with it, using an Ampeg head.

I ended up speaking with Heather at Bag End - who is fantastic! They had a S12b with a cosmetic “blemish” on the top-left front corner at a significant discount. Honestly, it’s hardly noticeable and I was hard pressed to even find it.

Paired with the PJB BG-120 this has proven to be a fantastic modular setup.

I've almost bought one when I ordered my first D12, they've offered to build me custom then (basically a S18B-B and a similar sized D12) but I decided to stick to the standard D12 and that it was enough. I'm not sure if they will now... but I asked :D

That is the cabinet but in Oiled Birch with plastic corners (like my pair of D12) not Deep Red. I want the big box 18" with the removable port cover.

I have been looking for a new cabinet for few months. Yesterday I made the rounds at local stores and played through some newer high end neo loaded cabinets as I would like to be able to gig out. I own a D12 birch. 80 lbs. Somewhere on here I documented the rehab of the cabinet, it was covered in grey carpet and had a hole drilled into the back which I plugged with a dowl, removed the carpet and oiled the wood and installed 2- Delta Pro12A speakers which as I understand it are close enough to the E12's that Bag End was using. A few years ago I purchased the Eminence Speaker designer software in an attempt to create my own S12 cabinet and removed one to the Deltas for the project. Sounded good but certainly no Bag End cabinet. I could never really be sure if my rehab of the D12 yielded a true Bag End sound. I had discussed this with Bag End directly and asked if they could recommend a neo speaker for this rehabbed cabinet but was warned that I wouldn't like the sound so I never explored that option. I am still curious about it though. Have you tried a neo 12 in an S12 or D12 cabinet?

When I returned home last night I decided to re assemble the D12 and give it another shot, worst case scenario I dolly it over to a local store and part ways. Plugged in a 400rb and damn this thing sounds better than I remember. I recall the thread " who has come crawling back to Bag End cabinets". I wouldn't say I am crawling back but perhaps more or less having an epiphany that this age old design sounds better to me that the newest cabinets on the market. I check the Bag End website from time to time to see what's new and dream about the S10-B and S10N-N. So curious about those two cabinets and would have purchased one or the other already if I could just make up my mind.

I am going to purchase a new cabinet something I can move by myself. I have been so curios about the S10 series for a long time and I do not have any 10" cabinets. Have any of you used both or compared the S10-B to the S10N-N?

A few posts back someone asked about the S18D. The larger 18" cabinet with the front port. I owned one for a few years. It was fantastic and the weight was reasonable as I could move it on my own, it was just a bit cumbersome. I do recommend you purchase one if you find it and need that much low end in your rig.
