Bag End Stack in the House!

Another question... If I do end up pairing some Bag End speakers with a Mesa Walkabout head... will two S12s paired up be equal to the power of one D12 cab? It says the S12s are 200 watts each at 8 ohms and the D12 is 400 watts at 4 ohms. The head is 165 watts at 8 ohms and 300 watts at 4 ohms, I believe.

I am basically amp-********, which I should probably fix, so I'm not good with what the watts and ohms mean and how it all works out. I am assuming, based on my little knowledge and some common sense, that pairing two S12s together would make them run at 4 ohms as a pair like the D12? Therefore the amp would be running at 300 watts pushing two speakers that are now equivilent to 400 watts?

Please correct me if I'm wrong. I'm not watt crazy, and I've never personally needed more than 300 watts, but I frankly just don't want to blow anything up.


Oh, and the reason I don't just get the D12 is because two seperate 12s make life so much easier for me. If I'm playing a small jazz/dinner gig and I have the benefit of only bringing half my rig, it's a big plus. If I'm at a bar and I want my full rig, I bring both.


Edit: After a little more research, I've decided to look into getting an S12 and an S15 eventually, but my original question still remains. Thanks!

Yes, two 8 ohm cabs in parallel will give you a 4 ohm total load which is perfectly safe for most amps incluiding the Walkabout.
I have not played through a Walkabout personally but 2 BagEnds can take that much power and then some. I'd say that amp would be quite fine driving 1 200W cab. It will be OK (and perfectly safe) to run both cabs also, but to take full advantage of two cabs (which can handle 400W) I'd personally go for a more powerful amp like an M-Pulse 600W. This would prevent amp from clipping resulting in a cleaner tone, and provide you with more headroom.

The latest amplification for my Bag S15X-D/S15-D stack is a Genz Shuttle 6.0. It is nearly perfect sounding.. just outstanding. I recommend it highly.

I loved the way my Neo-Pak sounded with the Bag S15 stack. The Shuttle is that same sound with even more punch.

That's excellent, Michael. My Shuttle with the two S15s is extremely punchy. If I had extras at a recent local get together, I could have sold them! I imagine you may get some high end with the S15X, but I know my two give me all that I need. I do have a D10XB-D on the way to use for those gigs when even a compact 2x15 stack may be too much.

You Shuttle users have a chance to compare/contrast the Shuttle with the GK 1001RBII with the S15 stack?

I use a 1001RBII with my two S15-D's. And I'm curious about the Shuttle. :help:

I had fun last night at an outdoor gig. Pretty laid back, so I didn't run myself through the PA. (Smallish PA.) Just wanted to see how the stack sounded with no FOH support. Band was medium loud. The S15-D stack held up well. My GK had tons of headroom! My Master was on 10:00! (Boost at noon and my Gain at around 10:00 using a hot output bass.) Cabs sounded really good. I'm glad I "took the plunge" and ordered the BE's sight unseen. And also glad I went with the tweeterless versions of the BE 1x15. More than enough top end for moi.

Photos to follow, but I just took delivery of a D10XB-D. My goodness! What a cab. Very loud and low. Definitely sounds lower than my S15 stack. I actually had to scoop out some mids. Two of these together should be quite the stack. I picked this one up to serve as a single cab option when I don't want or can't bring the two S15s and want a little more than one S15 gives. I believe that I have chosen wisely!

The next cab you need in the arsenal is one of their s18 series. S18BD maybe?

Pairs well with the 15, and with the 210. You can ever (really!) use it alone. It's the ONLY 18 I have been able to say that about.

Like I wrote at the beginning of this thread, I want a 3 way, with a 210, 15 and 18. That would rock.

I got most gigs covered now. The D10XB-D is easily the equal of many 410s. Very pronounced low mids. Lots of lows from that box. The S15 stack is much more pronounced in the upper mids. For loudness and cut, it's the stack. For solid low end punch, its the D10. It's good to have choices. Oh and I still have the S15B-D if I ever need more. That's probably going to end up being more for the PA, though.

Yikes!

... tbrannon's old dual s-15 stack should be in the house late next week so I'll be re-joining the uh, brown baggers, well red baggers I guess. GK 1001 RB II or BMax/RMX 850 for power.

Anybody using a BDDI in the front end of their S15's ?

That's a beauty, you could try the 210 box in the middle with the compression driver on top so you can hear it. I have heard a lot of people talk about the high end being too much on any of the "X" series boxes. I agree, when you are playing in your basement the high end is very present. But what I have noticed recently, playing live you need those extra high frequencies to cut through, they are harder to hear with a full band. That is, if you want to hear higher frequencies at all. When I recently used my S15X-D live, as a monitor facing me in a gospel situation, with some funk and slap, it was amazing. And the guys in front of me (guitars and vox) said it sounded great (they got some of the rear port plus what was put through their monitors.

I found a D10BX-D on ebay for $250 in excellent shape. Like a dumb___ I sold it to a friend right before I bought my Markbass LMII head. Would've been a perfect match.

Being the good friend that he is, he rubs in the fact that I finally came up on the short side of a deal. What the heck was I thinking?

I got to hear it on one of his gigs being driven by a GK 1001 amp. Sick.

I don't really 'get' the Traynor yet. I've gotten some goods things out of this setup though. The Traynor is kind of a work in progress. Plug in the GK 1001 RB II and it kills. Then again we already knew that ... I still miss my old deep D-10X. I'll certainly score another of those at some point. To paraphrase some old rocker...'sweet little 15' ...
