Band Issues

this reeks of delicious scandal

best case scenario: the chick is hot and has pipes and stage presence...she's gonna drop you old pervs (i'm one too and i have a 16yo daughter) and find someone in her age group once someone does her a solid and talks some sense into her

WHAT DO YOU ALL HOPE TO ATTAIN WITH THIS YOUNG LADY IN YOUR BAND? seriously?....

OK, so to the OP... and not to belabor the point, but...

If this chick singer is under so many restrictions with regard to showing her picture, etc., how are you marketing her as part of the band at all? I mean, if her biggest asset to the band is that she's hot, but you can't capitalize on that in your promotion, what's really the point? On top of which, I have to think her age is precluding you from playing bar gigs (which are the bread-and-butter of most cover bands I know, anyway). In which case, she is a significant liability to your band irregardless of how good she looks and/or sings. Or is she one of these teenage girls that looks 25 and so none of the venues you play raises the issue?

I'm not a lawyer and don't know your local statutes but it feels to me like if you're (not personally, but as the band) bringing her into bars to do gigs, you are technically open to charges of contributing to the delinquncy of a minor or some such.

I'm 17 and play in my band, the youngest member besides me is our 23 year old singer and the rest of the guys are in their 40s.
My mom and dad don't care. I guess it's a girl thing, parents are more protective of girls, and maybe her moms just a psycho that wants control. Talk to her, and tell her your story.
Most likely once her daughters 18 she can't do crap because her daughter will be an adult.
What does she disagree about anyways? Pictures of her daughter posted or something?

Sounds like she's not the best mom for metal. :hiding:

What is the best mom for metal?

Seriously, I would do a band meeting on this one. I would have the 17 year old singer there, and my position would be that we are all putting the mom on "ignore" from now on, blocking her texts, etc. She can say anything she wants, but ultimately, she has no say in band decisions.

If she wants to pull her daughter out, so be it.

As far as working with a minor, that is your choice. If you can find a way to do it that works, then good on you for setting a good example, and helping a young performer get into the business.

But beware all the stuff the other posters have mentioned! And NEVER check into a Hotel or Motel with her!

Pages and pages of this and it's a wonder the OP hasn't quit out of disgust considering some here have treated him as if he's Humbert Humbert.

It's because a Whole Lot Of Us consider this a slam dunk.
A slam dunk not even worthy of consideration.

I wouldn't spend One Second of my time in this band.
Not one second.

Life is short. I'm old enough to smell a bomb before it blows.

There's Nothing in the equation that make the risk worth it.
Nothing.

To ask these questions, and ponder this, you really, really have to have blinders on. Big, big, bad blinders.

Well we are 2.5 months down the road and it finally happened. Things seem to be calming down and everyone was getting along then the mom started her crap at our last gig Sat. Both singers through their little fits the last half hour of the gig and the rest of the band decided to quit after the show and find another singer all together. DING DONG THE WITCH IS DEAD! Looking forward to playing music with my friends again with no drama. Thanks for all the comments and advice.

One option I do have is that I was asked to audition for another band, but I would hate to quit and leave my true friends in a bind.

If they aren't backing you, they aren't your friends. A friend would support you in this situation.

Before I left a good situation I would have a band meeting and tell them that you'd love to stay, but you're not in high school any more and you are not putting up with the drama. Either they face this problem together, as a band, or you are leaving.
