Band names that make you shake your head

Anything overly complicated to spell or pronounce always enrages me on behalf of anyone who has to market them. Metal and Scandinavia as a whole can get away with it, but if you're American and being like "We are Megarido Ottibracon Asperi" ... The bands not gonna make it.

just about every metal group with a name trying to sound like the members are tough guys. Those crack me up.

You're going to have to give some examples. I can't think of any Heavy Metal bands with names implied to make them sound tough.

Personally, I think it is impossible for a rock band to have a name that is too stupid or ridiculous. It's rock n' roll, so it should be fairly stupid and ridiculous.

The Tony Danza Tap Dance Extravaganza

The Tony Danza Tap Dance Extravaganza is an amazing and hilarious band name, I've always felt.

"Whoretopsy" is a terrible band name that I've seen recently. Same with "Cemetery Rapist."

Ones I've seen at shows, written on walls, include "Little Girl Farts," and "Shithammer."

There was a band that used to rehearse in the same building as my band. Their name was "That Which Binds," but they really didn't think about their logo enough, because the font they went with made the "N" look like an "R." So it always looked more like "That Which Birds," which we always found oddly hilarious.

Obviously, there's always naming your band "Free Beer!"

SUNN O))) is the one that really annoys me. A $$$$$ band ripping off the name of a very respectable former amp maker....


A funny one:
In the Portland area there are rival bands Pizza Time and Pizza Party (both play punk music) and they sometimes play the same bill.

Sunn O))) is actually pretty cool. Not all music is made for all people. Their name is a reference not only to the amps but also to the band Earth (who in turn used, at the time at least, primarily Sunn amps).

Bands have referenced other things all the time. The Rolling Stones took their name from an already existing song, after all. And some people at the time certainly didn't think they were a very good band. Black Sabbath took their name from a movie. The Beatles' name is an oblique reference to Buddy Holly and the Crickets. The Dead Kennedys' name is a somewhat tasteless reference to a politically influential family in the USA. "Fugazi" is a relatively common term for a messed up situation. I've even heard of a band named "The Wind in the Willows," after the book. What's so special about an amp brand that no one can name a band after them?

I would shake my head if any other band named themselves this but for some reason the Butthole Surfers name works for them don't know why.

One of my old bands used to play shows with Super Heavy Goat Ass, I think they were out of Austin.

XYLYX - hard rock garage band I was a member of in the mid 80s. It's a poisonous Beatles in Africa is I remember correctly.

BDC - Local band around here years ago. The letters didn't stand for anything. Just the three letters. They got asked all the time. And when asked "What does BDC stand for?" they would just look confused and say "Whataya mean?"

^^^Actually, that might be the name of my next band.

I loathed that band name trend. I loathed it so much, I almost started a band called noun the verb (all lower case). We would've played melodic black metal influenced crunkcore jazz. Unfortunately, all the Brooklyn hipsters got hip to my scheme and nobody responded to my Craigslist post.
