Band Pics....are they still necessary?

Band photos are good for making up graphix for posters or online posts on social media community music pages.
Don't think going into a pro photo studio like back in the day (80/90s) is necessary. But having a photo savvy friend works. Or my BL made a little stand that holds his phone - works fine.
Having a white background is fun, so you can in graphics "lasso" band members and put them against different backgrounds.

Well, we took the pics. I haven't seen them but the LG is going to send them to me and I'm going to attempt to edit them and add a logo and booking info. We took some with instruments and some without. I just hope there's at least one where we all look good.

It depends on the level of the venues the band is opearating in. Cruise ships, harbor dinner cruise, beach gigs at the community stages, festivals, special events like Market days, or weddings, big private parties or venue driven casuals...et el and the agencies that book at this level would probably want a press-pack prior to contract finalization.

HAHAHA.... true ..... a pic of some old guys standing around in shorts, black socks and sandals won't help your band either.

Word of mouth / crony network is all fine & well – but sooner or later there will be some kind of good opportunity where the client would like some audio, video and/or stills.
Since I am not particularly good at band promo, I at least try to be accommodating to whoever does take all that on.
I've seen bandmates put up resistance for photos, and I think would you like to take over getting more gigs & selling more covers – without decent photos? No? Then how about just a little extra cooperation here & there?
I did refuse once when the BL took us to the shopping mall studio & wanted us to pose with a bunch of giant crayons. You've got to draw the line somewhere. 🤡

I mean, its not like your LOOKS will make your SOUND. To me if you wanna get noticed it would be for great (tight) sound. People remember a band that kicks butt.... an active internet site helps a lot (to show people where you're playing this weekend) and a good band name probably serves you better than pics. They aren't a horrible idea I suppose, but I can see how a bad pic could turn me off if you all look like a group of hoodlums holding instruments.

A group of hoodlums holding instruments would totally sell a band. And has, countless times. Image counts for quite a bit.

You need some kind of pics for promotion by the venues (bars) you pay at. In the day of everyone having a 4K camera in their pocket, not having pics is really inexcusable. Just copy what some of the local bands are doing.
