Bandmix.com - Worthwhile?

I update my bandmix page one a month or so, but zero responses. Far more from craigslist and internal connections. Me thinks it's close to worthless as a service.

In the Nashville area, bandmix is pretty useful. I found my current band, but several singers and guitards through that resource. The fact that it's a paid site weeds out the typical CL morons. I can see, however, that it's appeal would be limited in towns with smaller music scenes.

I've noticed that every Lead Guitar Player on Bandmix lists himself as also a Bass Player. If those guys play bass anything like the lead guitarists from any of the bands that I've ever played with, heaven help us with so many bad bassists out there tarnishing our reputations.

BandMix is free so take advantage of it and the usual things.
I have gotten a few contacts through it. The only problem with BandMix is you can't tell half the time what instrument a person plays, whether someone or some band is merely posting themselves for exposure or they are looking for band members.
Nevertheless, being in a great band is just one hook-up/contact or call away from it happening.

Weird but I have had more luck with CL than with bandmix.

The band that I'm with found me, (or I found them) through bandmix. It's a lot like fishing. You have to keep your line in the water if you want to catch something.

Biggest issue I have had is that most people do not list any contact info in their bio. You have to be a paying member to communicate with others. Some people creatively list their contact info, but most do not.
I have found Bandmix to be very useful. Plus you recieve weekly emails about people in your area and people who have viewed your info.

They have it set so you can no longer put your email in as a link. You have to space it out like "emailaddress At Y a h o o Dot Com

I've had decent luck with it. Certainly no worse than CL. I've had an account for years. When a member of the band moves on that's one of the places I start my search. I just click on "premier membership", specify one month membership and they bill me. I can usually find someone during the month. At the end of the month it reverts back to a free membership. I don't even have to remember to go on and cancel. I'll find 6 or 8 people to audition and that's worth $10 to me. I have just 3 complaints;
1) Musicians who register put down as musical style every style available even if they only know one song in that style.
2) Musicians list every instrument they have had the pleasure to touch as what they play. You get a lot of hits searching for a drummer and then their photo shows them shredding on a Strat. It takes some weeding through them but eventually you learn what to watch out for.
3) When you put in a search radius (20 miles from your home), it will send you hits for everyone within a 200 mile radius (not exaggerating). It's tough when you find exactly the right profile and he lives in Nome.

I think if you don't have a lot of musical contacts (I don't) then you need to use all of the available tools to connect with other musicians and bands. Considering the amount of money we invest in gear, I don't feel like the fees charged by bandmix are a bad investment. The search function is excellent, and you can filter by distance, recent activity, availability of audio or video clips, etc. I pretty much ignore anybody who hasn't made the effort to include pictures, videos, or audio clips.

I have found singers and bands on bandmix, and they have found me. Just recently I was contacted by a solo artist who is a full time musician and wants to put together a part-time band to expand his offerings. I auditioned and was offered the job, which I accepted. There's no way I would have even gotten this opportunity without bandmix because I just don't have the networking connections (which I agree is always the best way to find a gig).

I have never paid for it, but I use it as a sort of 'resume/press kit' for myself. It's a good format for posting videos/audio/bio/equipment/experience/etc... I have had a few people contact me out of the blue about joining their bands, but the majority are weekend-warrior classic-rock gigs. Also: If you want to get around the lack of ability to contact people with a free account, you can usually do a quick Facebook search to hunt them down...there are almost always mutual friends when it comes to musicians in my area at least.

Generally, at least in my area, it's the same dicks on craigslist who have some kind of personal problem and can't get along with people/commit to something that are also on bandmix. I use FB to communicate with local musicians. I used to use Craigslist but I only met maybe two decent musicians there.

If you are actively looking for a band the answer is yes! My current band found me there. Make sure you upload video and have a bio and there's a good chance of getting serious replies. I dropped the paid membership once I signed on with the band. I found CL to be very hit or miss.

The band I played with a few years ago and the band I just joined contacted me via BandMix.

I had two auditions from bandmix. One band hired me on the spot, then fired me the next day via text. The bandleader from the other band yelled at me because I wasn't good enough.

I found my current band on Craigslist.
