Yeah different opinions are crazy. I love Jack White's guitar playing. He's my favorite guitarist of all time honestly. When he plays you know he just loves his guitar beyond anything else.
Have you guys even seen the documentary? It honestly made me a fan of the Edge, and generally can't stand U2's music. It's extremely well done and respectful of the legacies of all three with being too hero-worshippy.
I am always amazed when I see a band of guys in their teens who have been playing for a few months, have no apparent talent or ability and get shoved through the machine by a marketing group.
I think you have to get it on DVD through the mail. Buddy and mine tried to watch it a few months ago.

My point was their later stuff. What, they played one show in the last 4 years of their career? How does a band get so much respect for that?
I respect the Beatles, but their talent was above average, their songwriting is above average (I can name a dozen songwriters in twelve seconds who pound them into the ground) and their accolades as that live act are very suspect, if you even fail to recognize the fact it was largely non-existent for almost half their career.
They were innovative pioneers of studio work - but so were many other artists from the period and since. They also invented the marketable 'boy band'...but Justin Beiber is in that group. Eew.
You must also realize you're talking about a time where live bands like The Who, The Hendrix Experience, The Rolling Stones, etc. were innovating live music. Saying that The Beatles couldn't play live because the technology wasn't there is silly. They were plain and simple making studio albums. Which is cool. But if I'm gonna rate an all-around band and the category "live rating" came up they'd get the fattest F around.

Again, do some research and listen to a lot of their pre-fab four phase (when they were unknown, playing in Hamburg's red light district for hours and hours and doing drugs just to keep up . . . just like Justin Bieber and the Backstreet boys, right?). They "invented" the boy band thing . . . ? Hardly. Blame the record companies for that (and a gazillion other trends). Virtuosos? No. But solid, yes.
I don't mind criticizing The Beatles, and though I do dig them a lot, I can say without hesitation that (just like any other artist) they have great, good, average and crappy songs. However, if you are going to try to prove a point, do so with solid arguments.
So who are your 12 songwriters that "pound" The Beatles in a second?
BTW, The first Stones hit was a Beatles song (I Want be your Man). . . And to say that the stones were more innovative than the Beatles is just plain silly. The Stones are a Blues based band, and very good at it.
As for Hendrix, well, he loved The Beatles stuff and covered it . . . doesn't that tell you something?

Dubstep is just, well, bad. It sounds like the old Dial-up modem I used to have.
I think it was in that big PBS special. He was saying how they spent all this time making peppers and then 2 days after it comes out hendrix is killing it live
I understand that people have different tastes, and not everything is going to appeal to everyone. For me, I can listen to just about anything so long as it isnt Country-Pop or some variation of Metal with unintelligible vocals.
I enjoy dubstep. I like a lot of hip hop, yes, even whats playing on the radio. I like contemporary pop music (so long as it isnt of the country-ilk). Some songs I like, some I dont, in practically every genre.
Id never be amazed that a band made it just because I dont like their music, because even if I dont like it a million others might.
Sounds like what I recall hearing! I even remember him saying 2 days, but said 'a few' in my post in the event I was incorrect.
Maybe he should love some music lessons too
