Barefaced One10

Quick additional update on my Barefaced Bass One10. Last night I played a Rat Pack show theatre gig in about a 500-seat theatre in Hartlepool, England. The band is five horns and three rhythm on stage (plus the Sinatra, Davis and Martin vocalists), and we always go into a house system for the FOH plus some monitors on stage. It is an upright gig. The band can get pretty loud by horn band standards. Because the quality of the sound system and crew can be quite variable, I have been taking either my Super Midget or BB2, driven by an AI Focus SIII as a stage monitor, at a minimum, and a source for some FOH sound if the sound crew doesn't seem to be able to get the bass sound right. Last night I took just the One10 with the Focus, an easy load-in with both of them tucked into a padded cajon bag slung over my shoulder. The sound quality was fantastic, there was plenty of volume and I could have pulled a lot more out of the speaker if I'd had to. I got a bunch of compliments from the guys in the band on the punchiness and clarity of my sound, and the rhythm section swung like hell as it was so easy to lock up with the drummer and pianist. I love this speaker and the more I play it, the more I find that it opens up. I know this is not the Upright forum and am going to post a duplicate of this over there. Hopefully a doubling gig will come my way soon so that I can provide some real world gig feedback on bass guitar as well.

I received my One10 yesterday. A redundant comment, I know, but it's amazingly small. Even smaller when you hear its output :) I have limited time on it, less than an hour, and with only one of my amps and basses, but I have already experienced the warm and smooth tone that so many have mentioned. I really look forward to having it open up in the coming days.

The build quality of the cab is outstanding. I asked Alex and team to place the side feet on the same side as the handle, giving me a nice flat surface for my amp when it's on its side - nice! Communication and support from Barefaced - Alex, Claire, Bobby - has been terrific, as good as I've ever received over many, many decades of owning bass gear.

My Super Midget should arrive in the next 10 days. I look forward to pairing it with the One10 and having the same positive experience as Erik/Lownote with this combination. I'll post pics and further comments in the larger Barefaced thread once both cabs are in my possession.

Yes, I think that's especially true when the cab has only one set of feet and/or is especially heavy. I think less so when the cab has two sets of feet or can be flipped as easily as a piece of toast :)

Same for us! That approach started with the original Compact and continued with all our smaller cabs, so you can carry them like a suitcase in one hand, without tripping over them or them swinging around more, as would happen if the cab was carried 'tallways'. Not everyone agrees though!

How different are the 110 cabs from the 210 in terms of tone? Since the 210 does some frequency filtering on one of the speakers, I'd expect some difference, even between the 210 and a pair of 110 cabs. Not to mention the 110 mid driver.

Almost identical - the lowpass filter on one of the 10"s in the Two10 is to maintain good dispersion with sideways orientation, it doesn't really change the tone. The concentric midrange dome is common to all of our cabs - on the 10CR250 driver it's a 2" dome, on the 12XN550 driver it's a 3" dome. It's driven directly by the voicecoil but it makes a big difference to dispersion and upper mid/treble response.

I received mine today. It is hard to stay objective: I love it. What strikes me most is the great sound it provides at relatively low volumes. I've put about 1,5 hours on it with my EUB playing some Sinatra evergreens and did a play-along with this Jamerson playlist on Spotify on my Precision with flats. It is a fabulous sounding piece of kit and even after only after these couple of hours I know it is the best 1x10 I have ever laid my hands on.

But: I use it with my Tecamp Puma 900 which puts out 600 watts @ 8 Ohms. Given that it says 200 watts on the back of the One10 I was wondering whether this is a sane setup in the long run or whether I should be on the lookout for a micro-head which does something in the range of ~250 @ 8 Ohms? I realize that common sense is an important factor in this case but perhaps alexclaber can give a reassuring advice ;)

I don't think it's worth getting a less powerful head just for that cab. Just keep the volume sane and be aware. Even a smaller head that only pushes 150 watts into 8 Ohms can screw up the cab if the eq is wonky and output very high. On the other hand, if you have the spare scratch and are looking for a way to rationalize the GAS of buying a new, small head, I can only say I've done that or similar more than a few times:D.

I agree. I use a Puma 900 on my Crazy8 cab. Works fine. Sounds great. Just be reasonable. If you need to be really loud, get a BB2. :D

So I'm pondering a One10 to use in bluegrass/Americana acoustic jams/gigs when I'm on ABG. I'm sure it'll be loud enough since I'm the only one amplified.

What I'm wondering (and sorry if this has been covered) is how grindy/growly will it be vs. uncolored/clean? Does the grind/growl kick in at any volume, or only when pushed hard or what?

Does it sound like a really good 110, or does it sound bigger (like a 12 or 15)?

Also wondering what folks would think about pairing it with a MAS110 sub for rock?

I haven't cranked mine in a band setting yet but my One10 has remained smooth and clear in fairly loud home tests. My guess is that you'd have to pump some heavy watts into it before it breaks up. My One10 has been connected to two different 500w amps, 300w at 8 ohms.

The One10 reminds me of my TC112 in warmth, smoothness, and volume, though I can't do a direct comparison since the TC112 is long gone.

Thanks. I usually take a TC112 to these jams, so that's really good to hear. I use a Puma 500 (I think it's 300 or 35o at 8 ohms) and have to turn gain and master almost to noon with the TC112.

How is dispersion/sound envelope size? Does it sound bigger than a 110? I've read comments that it's "punchy" which to me means more focused rather than enveloping.

Please keep the comments coming, including about a One10/MAS110 sub combo.

And thanks Iomo. Given your (partial) list of heroes, I assume you're pretty happy these days now that you will soon have the only world leader with a tattoo!

My #1 is a Puma, Powersoft version, and it sounds huge through the One10. I feel like I'm playing through a heavy duty tube amp into a big cabinet.

The One10 doesn't sound like any 10" I've played through; perhaps my Fearless F110 but it also had a midrange and tweeter.
