Ahh! I knew exactly what the pic was, but you've already posted. I think it was later than that. Early '90s. I want to say it was around '93. Maybe '92.
How'd you like the Braves last night? 2 from Teixeira, one from Andruw, and the big one from McCann. Hudson as the NL's first 15-game winner. In the AL, the first 15-game winner has gotten the Cy Young the past few years. I don't think I see it coming back to Atlanta, though. :hmm:

While Ventura and White Sox manager Gene Lamont were ejected, Ryan–who had barely moved from his spot on the mound in the fracas–was allowed to remain in the game and pitched hitless ball the rest of the way. Ryan had determined to be more aggressive after coming out on the wrong side of an altercation with Dave Winfield's beating in 1980.

Lost in the 30 run Ranger outburst was 4 games with 10 or more runs by my beloved Carmine Hose. I have been waiting all year for this kind of offense and it comes just in time for the Yankees next week

I had tickets for the Thursday night game in Chicago and sat through a 2.5 hour rain delay before they finally postponed the game until the next day as part of a day/night doubleheader. Since I got a late start out of my inlaws house in Milwaukee and Chicago traffic is awful, I managed to see the last two innings. I'm not sure how many White Sox fans were there at the beginning but it was probably close to 75% Red Sox fans by the end. Lots of Red Sox fans at all the games.

Couple of thoughts -
I'm glad to see Detroit get back on track; does anyone know what was up with them over the past few weeks.

The catcher that we brought up from Pawtucket when Mirabelli got hurt can catch Wake's knuckleball - that was a huge relief.

Tavares just had another great outing - 6 innings 1 run.
Gagne seems to have regained the touch on his change up and has now gone 4 innings without giving up a run.

JD Drew hit a homerun and the new outfielder Kietly has already contributed and seems to have settled in to the team.

I'm looking forward to the Yanks-Sox series. The pitching matchups are great -
Will AP right the Yankee ship once again?
Will the Sox score half the runs for Dice-K that they were delivering in Chi-town for every other starter.
Who will win the showdown between the ancient warrior and the kid who looked up to him in Little League.

I don't see either team sweeping - a 2-1 split would be fine by me in either direction.

The play lately has been good but they are in deep "Taking Care of Business" mode - the '07 Rays and '07 White Sox don't remind anyone of the '27 Yanks. But they are major league players and a W against them counts the same as a W against the top teams.

Folks here are backing away from the ledges; but no one counts out the Yanks until the stake is driven through their hearts. The Sox lead is exactly what it was in '78 on this date. :hmm: We have much more pitching and more intelligent management than back then, but as yours and my favorite baseball philospher once said - its not over until its over. That said - I'll take 7.5 over 4 any day.

Boomer is too much.

I guess Pedro will be returning to the Mets - if he is half what he was in '03 and '04; they will be in for a treat. When Pedro is on, he is a true master of pitching.

Tigers have had far too many injuries. The starting rotation has only been together for two weeks the entire season. And they have had both of their set up men out for extended periods of time. When the starting staff was intact they were the best team in baseball, with the injuries it's going to be a dog fight to make the playoffs. Yesterday Jurgins (one of the replacements) who had been pitching excellent went down with inflammation of the shoulder. :hmm: It's nice to have a healthy Zumiya back for the stretch run, with Zumiya, Rodney and Jones, were going to be tough if we get a lead late. The problem is were down to three of our original starting rotation. :mad:

Burk, thanks for the update and for the two recent defeats of the Evil Empire. :D Good luck against the Yanks tonight.

I wasn't aware of the injuries - I really only pay attention to 3teams

Whoever is playing the Yankees ;)

Injuries are the "X" factor in any teams success - especially with pitching. When I look at the struggles of the Red Sox last year and the White Sox this year just 2 years after a World Series victory, you really start to appreciate how hard it is to be a consistent winner and what role luck plays over the course of a season. In '04 - the Sox were remarkably injury-free; '05 was about an average injury season (as has this one) and '06 was worse than average.
