All unearned runs! Reyes scores from first on an infield hit and almost got the catcher decapitated because of complete lack of hustle. If Jose had slid into home it could have been REALLY nasty. That was just plain embarrassing baseball Seattle!

Oh, you mean Mets/Marlins. It took several minutes for me to figure out what you were talking about. Yeah, Florida was looking pretty good most of the game, and then just shut down. The Braves played pretty much the same way against the Phillies last night. But GEEZE, does Jeff Franceour have one hell of a gun on him! Did you see those throws to the plate? We're back to 3.5 behind the Mets, but hopefully Renteria will be back soon. Escobar looks good, but he's just too young to be relied on that heavily at this point.

Braves stole a close one, 5-4, tonight. Chipper dropped in the winning hit in the bottom of the 9th. Bobby Cox had to watch from the Clubhouse, though. Tossed in the 5th, he holds the record now for all-time most ejections.
Unfortunately, the Mets and Phillies both won, too.
Looks like Boston got to pull another game ahead of the Yankees tonight. Man, 12-0 to Baltimore? Looks like Daniel Cabrera has had decent luck when he's gone to NY this year. What happened tonight, Joshua?

Reversion to the Mean.

Baltimore is actually playing pretty good baseball these days - the two games they took from Boston were as much a function of pretty good hitting by the O's than poor play by the Red Sox. Monday, they got to Riviera for a blown save, but the Yanks ended up pulling the game out of their....., uhhh, elbow.

Sox got an excellent game out of Jon Lester - 7 inn., 2 hits, 1 run. An inning of scoreless relief from Gagne (3 K's around a double on a fastball up and away). Only the second come from behind game this year - but nice clutch hitting from Lowell (HR to tie), Varitek (2B) and Crisp (1B for the gamewinner). If you watch the replay, I swear Crisp hesitated going around first to block/distract the right fielder who had a play at the plate - heady play.

I wonder what it would take to pry Scott Kazmir away from the Rays - he dominated the Sox.

There's quite a few teams wondering what it would take to pry Scott Kazmir from the rays...and since the all-star break he's been 4-1 with a 1.16 era or something like that. I just hope he doesn't end up being a yankee when his contract runs up.

Although if history has shown us anything, it's that success doesn't always carry over. So many get picked up by the Yanks and tank it's not even funny (although the same can be said all over the league).

Don't let me stop you from dumping on the Yanks.

That's because the Yanks tend to pick them up when they are old. Perhaps, it is because they wait until they are free agents. I shutter to think what would happen if the Yanks ever got serious about trading for young superstars like the Sox did to get Beckett.

It takes a certain type of personality to play in New York. Georgie doesn't think of that. He only looks at numbers and ticket sales. Look at Robbie Alomar when he went to New York(mets)...dismal. Mo Vaughn...dismal. I'm not going to list everyone here but you get my drift, as I'm sure you already understand what I'm saying.

I actually enjoyed watching the Yankees play in '96, '98, & '99...those were great BASEBALL teams. Save the All-Star teams for the All-Star break.

I mean seriously...have the Braves and Dodgers not shown the entire league how to groom talent and be competitive at the same time?! Those 2 clubs are the best at bringing up young talent...I'm not mentioning Kansas City, they really boil my flem.

What are you talking about? The Yankees have an incredibly successful farm system, I bet a big chunk of the roster is from their minors. Melky? Wang? Cano? Hughs? And now Joba?



The Mets also have a great farm system. It's called the Toronto Blue Jays.

Delgado, Green, Schoeneweis, Woodward, and though they've moved on, even Al Leiter and Trachsel went through Toronto. I'm sure there's more, but that's just the top of my head.

Our drummer is a HUGE Yanks fan and I called him when they tied it.


Shouldn't have done that.

What happened to Torre saying no Rivera or Joba today? It looked to me like he had zero confidence in the rest of the pen, and still sent his boy Mariano into a tie game on minimal rest to take a shellacking.

When was the last time he gave up a ding?

I thought Torre tends to over-rely on his top guys in the pen. This isn't a particularly new thing. Regarding the zero confidence in the rest of the pen - I'm not sure they inspire a whole lot of confidence. Interesting contrast to Francona who put a struggling Gagne back out there in a 1-0 game in the ninth and got 3 Ks out of him (most fans would have been willing to bury Gagne for the rest of the season). Another contrast is the usage of the closers - Riviera 52 innings; Papellbon 42. Who'll be more effective in September and October? ;)

Not sure of the last time he gave up a homerun; but he has only given up 4 on the season which isn't too bad. On the other hand 4 blown saves is the most he has had in a season since 2001 and the season isn't over. His ERA is much higher than the last few years.

The way the Yankee bats have been going, they haven't needed much help in the pen.

I haven't seen that play work since I was in Little League...even though everyone practices it from little league up through college....

Watch out for the Braves, I think they're going to make a little run here. They ran into a little wall called Tim Lincecum, Justin Webb, and Micah Owens...I think I misspelled/misnamed all them. Anyway...and somebody give it up for John Smoltz, the new Atlanta strikeout king. Great game yesterday.
