Baseball season 2007

Pitched the 9th in a non-save situation. First two were strikeouts, then a double on a pop fly to left where the stands jut out that was misplayed into a double. Gave up a run; but really looked pretty good. Fastball - 93 MPH - is not what it once was, but is still pretty fast.

Wakefield won his 13th.

Burk - what is up with the Tigers - I noticed they are 2-8 over their last 10. Is anything wrong or just bad luck?

Joshua and Louie - I don't remember many Yankee mid-season trades. The Abreau one looks good to me. Also, I looked at the recent Yankee June drafts and it was not that impressive. The Yanks have done well developing players from Latin America; but really don't have much to show from the USofA since Jeter.

By gritty I meant making the pitches he need to in order to work out of what little real trouble he got in.

joshua-Yeah, I know I'm a chucklehead. But as usual, just busting chops...its what I do ;)

On a Brave note-I LOVE the pickup Schurholtz made. Dotel and Teixara. Turning down 140 million to play under Bobby! THAT'S a true baseball player. Now if they can only find a way to get Chipper's head out of his ass...:eek:

dangnewt-Yes, Gagne looked good. And he responded very well to that error. His next pitch was a 93 mph fastball on the black, an inch or two under the knee...live there all day long. And I wouldn't worry about only throwing 93. That change-up he has is n-a-s-t-y! Plus he has great control...so he puts it where he wants it and mixes in that change piece. That 93 turns into 98! Good stuff.

Joshua, maybe A-rod will break out of his slump in time for the wild card chase? :D

And on another A-rod note...
I was talking to a buddy of mine at the pub on saturday and he mentioned A-rod's option he has for next season. Apparently it was said somewhere that he wants $30 mill. a season and 15% owndership in the Yanks!! :eek:
Usually I wouldn't believe such things but he is quite reliable for useless information like this. Plus...I wouldn't believe something like this unless it came from Micheal Jordan but with A-rod, it seems typical.

What makes him think any human being is worth that? And if somebody gives him that I think our civilization is going to fall much like the Romans did when their Gladiators were given more power than their politicians :scowl:

Thanks, but you know we always have an eye out for the Yanks - way too much history to do otherwise. And I've heard Sox fans say that Detroit is the best overall team in the league although they don't seem to be playing that way lately.

It was nice to take 2 out of 3 in Seattle where the Sox haven't had much success lately. Another good sign is that Manny seems to be concentrating a little more - he is hustling on the basepaths and paying attention to the runners coming home when he is on-deck.

On to Anaheim with the Big Schill going. I've heard good reports about his rehab starts in the minors and he has pitched well in Anaheim in the past.

There was a stat the other night which indicated that the Yanks have scored an average of 11 runs a game since the All-star break - I don't care that they got 21 in one game or that they are playing some weaker teams - that is still absolutely amazing.

Damn you, Moises Alou! I can't exactly put a finger on it, but I've not liked him since his days w/ the Expos. Tonight assures the continuation of this dislike. Solo shot in the bottom of the 8th put the Mets up 4-3. Smoltz should have stayed through the 7th. He could have gotten out of that jam. He may have given up one run, but don't think he'd give up both.
And also, damn you, Andruw Jones. You're only hurting yourself here, man! I don't care about the Gold Gloves, or you Player of the Year or past Silver Slugger awards. NO ONE WANTS YOU IF YOU'RE HITTING .200! Free Agency is going to be a bi+ch!

This may very well be the most exciting season I can remember from the past several years. The Yanks, at 5 games out, represent the biggest margin in any race, but may seriously have a chance to come back in the East, much less the Wild Card. And the D'Backs with a 4-game lead?! What the hell happened out West? And with SIX teams within 2 games of the NL Wild Card, this one's getting tight.

Just a recap of some of the milestones this year:
Frank Thomas and ARod: 500 HRs
Sosa: 600 HRs
Trevor Hoffman: 500 saves
Tom Glavine: 300 wins
Bonds: ehh
Craig Biggio: 3000 hits

I'm hoping Griffey will hit 600 before the end of the year, too. He's what, about 10 away?

Red Sox nation is a little uneasy. After going 3-3 against the best of the west, they had a decent chance to have a winning road trip with 3 against Baltimore and Dice-K, Beckett and Schill going - all pitched great but only Beckett got a W. We end with 1 win and 2 losses - both of the walkoff variety partly because of some good hitting by Baltimore and partly some ineffective relief from Gagne and to a lesser extent, Okajima. The Sox also have to get a little better at padding leads. Although, today they were hitting the ball hard but unfortunately right at the Oriole fielders.

Cleveland has a good team so the Yanks sweep of the Indians is a concern. Just as I couldn't believe the Yanks were as bad as they looked in the spring; I do not want to believe that they are as good as they have looked since the break.

I'll agree with that, I thought they yanked him early, too. Smoltz could have handled Moises better, especially since it was the whopping HR #6 for Alou. The fact he hit number 7 in the same game is a total fluke. To be honest, he's a Met and I don't like the guy. Whiner, and dogs it to first like bonds some days. In a game in the last phillies series I swear he ran straight to the dugout on a pop fly.

Wagner makes me nervous every time he touches the ball, in spite of his season numbers looking good.

The Mets remain a total fraud, yet remain in first place! WooHOO dude!:hyper:

It is pretty much a toss up all over as well. Mid-August and there's only about a dozen teams that are out of it (realistically speaking).

What's wrong with a cakewalk every now and then? I have way too much drama in my life already. Interesting is overrated.

14 games to go before the Sox-Yanks play in the Bronx.

If the Sox take care of business; they will still have a lead no matter what the Yanks do. Given the opponents that both are facing, the Sox should increase their lead; but whether they will or not is a crapshoot. If the Yanks reduce the lead to less than 4 by the time they meet, there will be plenty of anxious Red Sox fans.

Watching the encore of the Mets Mariners game from yesterday afternoon, I missed the end because of a gig. 8th inning.

Good grief what happened to the Seattle infield? From 5-4 to 10-4.
All unearned runs! Reyes scores from first on an infield hit and almost got the catcher decapitated because of complete lack of hustle. If Jose had slid into home it could have been REALLY nasty. That was just plain embarrassing baseball Seattle!
