They still are good. Chipper getting a little old and hobbly but that happens. They traded for Teixara!!! Only bad thing is Salamontakia is a great prospect and I was really looking forward to seeing him in a Braves uniform for a while...I hope this works out well.

Agreed. Even his first couple of years on the Sox, he was not quite skinny; but certainly pretty lean.


Rumor mill says we are close on Gagne for Gabbard. I like the deal. I'm not sure about the efforts to land Dye, unless they are really worried about Drew, I don't see the need for more outfielders.

Where did you hear that rumor? I heard that the Yanks got rid of Proctor and were pursuing Gagne hard.

I was worried as well when I heard about Proctor and the Yanks interest in Gagne.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed for Gagne. I'm not sure how the Yanks can offer more than Gabbard - who is already a solid #4 or 5 lefty who may well be a solid #3 for some teams.

I'm just dissapointed we won't get to see how Gabbard grows up as far as a pitcher, I really loved watching him pitch.

Yeah, he was a good pitcher, but sacrifices are always made.

Although, I am REALLY excited for Gange, when he is on he is probably one of the most intense pitchers in the game, lets just hope he's up to snuff for the rest of the year.

Thank You! for keeping him away from the Mets. We didn't pick up anyone for the starting rotation, which would be really helpful and this point, but some bullpen help (finally a lefty!) and Teixeira's bat will be helpful.

Now Julio Franco can take up his pinch-hitting role, and really provide an experienced, leading voice on the bench. What do we do with Scott Thorman, though. We don't need three guys at first, and Thorman has not been the most consistent off the bench.

All-in-all, I'm pretty happy, though I hate to see Salty go, but I'm happy for him. I'm calling it now: Jarrod Saltalamacchia WILL be an All-Star catcher one day.

Already carrying a short bullpen because of the extra position players they are carrying to cover the injuries, the Mets do exactly nothing at the trade deadline.

They are looking like they are gonna give up another extra inning loss to the brewcrew whilst I type this. They may still be in first, but I disagree with every move/non-move of the last 2 months. Pedro better come back chucking or The Mets might be in big trouble.

4-2 in 13. Looks like we got one back from y'all and the Phillies tonight. I'm excited to see Teixeira suited up tomorrow night, but Julio Franco hit the ball pretty dang hard tonight. Two fly-outs that each only needed another foot or two to be over the wall. Oh well, outs don't help, so maybe Teixeira will be able to get a little more pop to 'em.

I thought Willie was too quick to go the pen on Tom last night, I'd have given him the chance at one more out for sure.

Lastings kept that game going twice with those diving snags. Great fielding all over the diamond for both teams last night, very fun to watch in spite of the loss.

I didn't think they could make up that much ground that quickly in the wildcard given how many teams they had to leap over.

I am a little surprised they didn't go for any pitching help - I guess they think that they have enough (either that or they will score 11 a game from here on out.)

Like yourself, we've all seen the leapfrogs that occur when one team gets hot at the same time another gets cold. I still say it's anyone's division (although obviously time is waning)...



I think it was mostly a question of what they'd have to give up. I heard a few deals that were "potentials" that all named either top prospects or existing commodities (Melky was named in a couple). I guess (and hope!) that for once the Yanks didn't mortgage the farm for short term results. I'd rather have a tougher stretch now (or even dare I say miss the playoffs this year?) and a better future.

I understand hanging on to Melky - he is a proven MLB player. But I wonder if they are not over-valuing their prospects. The Sox gave up what they consider mid-level
prospects for Gagne while holding onto Lester and Ellsbury. I just hope that none of the guys they gave up turn into the next Bagwell.

You definetely never have to worry about the Yankees "over-valuing" their prospects. Given their track record and the release of "The Bronx is Burning", maybe Georgie finally saw how much of an ass is truly is and decided to let the people that he pays so much money to, actually do their job!!??

I'm very proud of the royals. Seems like they are finally moving away from being a Major, minor league team. I guess that's what happens when a Wal-Mart employee buys a team...they cut all the prices! Think about this outfield....Johnny Damon, Carlos Beltran, Jermaine Dye...:scowl:
