i think the sox lineup will be a bigger test for the rockies pitching staff than the cubs or the diamond backs were, but ai gree-it should eb a good series. my pick froma completely objective standpoint is the sox will win in 6. i think becket will end the winning streek for the rockies on wednesday, and i cant see schilling losing 2 games in one world series. the other games will be toss ups imo.

in regards to new england athletics....the celtics are back in a big way....also helps that KG is a lifetime redsox fan!!!!

Interesting breakdown on the WS - it could very well go that way - at least I hope it does.

True about the Celtics - I'll admit to being a bit of a bandwagon fan of the local hoopsters; but KG brings instant improvement.

That is fast company - but Manny fits in with all of the above as a hitter.

Gagne in the top of the ninth - shut down the side; one out, two out and three outs. The last out was a strike out! Gagne can pitch again! The Rockies are in big trouble!

Manny is a first rate hitter and is a shoe in to the Baseball Hall of Fame. Glad we have him on our team. Hell, I like all our players!

as much as I'd like to see the Sox sweep it, I rather see this go a full seven games with the Sox taking the final game at home. for me it's all about three extra games of baseball in the 2007 season overriding my desire for a Sox brooming of the Rockies

This is exactly how the Cleveland series started and if it turns out the same way I would be happy. My big concern going in was piercing the veil of invinceability that had built up around the Rockies after their remarkable run through the National League - I would say that striking out the side and then leading off with a home run (and tacking two more runs on in the first) pretty much shredded the veil of invinceability.

I am pretty sure that the Rockies are better than they showed last night and the hitters will be better after shaking off some rust; however, that doesn't do anything for the starting pitchers and any relievers that haven't gotten into a game yet. Neil Young (Cy's grandson?) had it right "Rust never sleeps."

i think it was huge for bsoton to get into the rockies bullpen as quick as they did...if there is another early exit by a rockies starting pitcher tonight, regardless of what the offense does, it will be bad news for them over the course of a series. especially against that patient and dangerous sox lineup.

It'll be interesting tonight since the Rockies starter has only made it to 7 innings three times this year and the rockies bullpen was called upon early last night.

i think it might show a bit of a disparity between the NL and AL once this series is over...we shall see.

McCarver harped on Francona's decision to keep Beckett in past the 5th inning even though the game was well in hand - his thinking is that it would increase the chances that Beckett could come back early and pitch the 4th and 7th games.

There are four main reasons that Francona didn't do this:
1. He did not want to use his bullpen unnecessarily as you never know what you will get from Schill and Dice-K.
2. It sends the message to your 4th starter (Lester) that you do not have confidence in his stuff.
3. Beckett has been lights-out on regular rest - why mess with success
4. It sends the wrong message to Schill and Dice-K that you don't have much confidence that they won't deliver a win or two.

They also went on and on about the difficult decision of whether to sit Youk or Ortiz when they are without the DH in Denver?
This is not so difficult a decision as Youk is a converted 3rd baseman and Ortiz is a decent first baseman. What would most likely happen if they play 3 games in Denver is that Lowell will play 2 games at 3rd, Youk will play one game at 1st and 1 game at 3rd, and Ortiz would play 2 games at 1st. And the odd man out will make a pretty potent bat off the bench.
