Thank God baseball's finally over. Now we can all focus on what's really important:

Another good game. Another World Championship. More unlikely heros - Bobby Kielty 1 AB; 1 HR. I love this game.

Colorado has a very good team and this was closer than the 4-0 or even the final scores would indicate. Except for the first game which they really didn't have much chance in with Beckett pitching the way he has and the 8 day layoff, the other three games could have gone either way - even game 3 which ended 10-5 was 6-5 when the Rockies mounted a strong comeback.

WOW!!! GO SOX!!! CONGRATS!!!

:hyper::hyper::hyper:

KEEP LOWELL!!!

NO AROD!!!

Amen to all three.

First, Arod blows off MLB and Hank Aaron by not showing to receive the award for best hitter in the AL; then he and Boras make the announcement that he was opting out of his contract DURING THE GAME so Buck and McCarver had to prattle on about it in the 8th inning of a 1-run potentially clinching game. I have placed almost total faith in the wisdom of the ownership, Theo and Terry and they have delivered with intelligent guidance of the team. I have to believe that they would not be so stupid as to sign Arod.

Have some patience with guys coming over from other leagues - some times we will get lucky as with Oki and Lowell they will be fine right from the start; and sometimes it may take a year as with Beckett. I hope that Drew and Dice-K will follow Beckett's example.

congratulations to you TBers who are RedSox fans. well played and well deserved.

i figured that they would beat the Rockies, but this was no contest. well done.

Thanks, I have enjoyed the season and this thread. The playoffs have ended and now the Hot Stove season has begun. It is not for everyone; but I'll continue to check in and hope we can keep it going until pitchers and catchers report in February.

The Hot Stove league started today in Detroit with the Tigers picking up Edgar Renteria from the Braves for a minor league outfield prospect and a decent pitching prospect. Jurgeins was a pretty good looking pitcher for about five games, but he was going to be competting for the #5 spot at best. to get an everyday four time all star Shortsop was worth it. The projected lineup for next year:

Granderson CF
Polonco 2B
Sheffield DH
Ordoinez RF
Gullien 1B
Rentereia SS
Rodriguiz C
Thames/Maybin LF
Inge 3B

Edgar didn't do as well as they hoped when he was in Boston in 2005 especially for a long-term $8-9,000,000 per contract; but looking back his stats were better than Gonzales in '06 and Lugo this year. Also, he probably was hurt and in 20/20 hindsight a little patience might have been a good thing - to give him a year to make the jump from AAAA to MLB ball. ;)

I imagine that the Sox are picking up 2 million a year or so and if the Braves are kicking in as well; that could be a good deal for the Tigers.

Is Detroit in the A-Rod hunt? You could pay A-Rod what he wants and still have a lower team salary than Boston or New York. Ideally (from the perspective of a Red Sox fan) he goes to the NL West; but I would be OK to get him out of the AL East.

Damn, I hate to see Renteria go from Atlanta. If he had been able to stay healthy, he and Chipper would have been the hottest 3B/SS combo in the NL. Both led the league in hitting at points throughout the season, and were 1-2 or 1-3 for a great deal of the year. Atlanta will need some help in the OF, though, with Andruw leaving. I'm anxious to see how his dealings work out w/ his dismal year at the plate in '07.

I doubt Detroit will be in the A-Rod hunt. i imagine that will be California, LA, Boston and the Mets. I'd love to see him at the corner, but I'm not holding my breath. If Boston signs him Detroit might go after Lowell.

Renteria hit .332 last year. He's an upgrade in the field and allows the Tigers to move Gullien to 1B. The Tigers would like to upgrade 3B, but I doubt they'll look for pitching help if Rogers comes back. They may try to add a LH for the bullpen. Remember the staff was only intact for two weeks last year. Healthy, they had the best ERA in baseball the year before.

maybe a team like the Dodgers are looking for a guy to get them to the post season, and can handle a choke in the play-offs simply because they made it to the play-offs

all the best,
