My thought is had he just gone out and picked up a Fender Precision bass from the start, he would have not spent all of that time and money searching for the perfect sounding bass...

Easy way to check - take apart the 'valves' in your kit and look for the chips.

Happened to me wearing my cap sporting the grateful dead bears...
I used Eleven Apples Daily Good Boys Eat as an acronym when I was teaching Guitar to students. Teaching Guitar (and also BASS) in not my forte so that only lasted for a year. I did hear (from parents) that heir kids were enthused, so something must have rubbed off.Studying the bass clef always makes me hungry.
