When fitting strap locks as replacements for original, non-locking buttons, are the threads for most modern, name-brand strap locks (Schaller, Dunlop, etc.) likely matching those buttons installed originally at Carvin's factory in the 1970s?

The screw heads for stock buttons are too wide to fit in the Dunlops, FYI.Personally I reuse the existing screws unless there is a compelling reason not to. That way you know it’s a perfect fit.
Never had that problem. Maybe something has changed on the spec. The screw heads for stock buttons are too wide to fit in the Dunlops, FYI.
I've been looking for a better solution than locking strap buttons and rubber washers. I found black nylon washers, clipped a portion out of the ring and slipped it on. It fits like an E-clip retainer ring. Perfect fit and doesn't sand tall and rattly.Slightly off-topic, but I have used a locking strap instead of installing strap locks with great success. Easier, and requires no modifications. Something like LM Products SureLock 2" Poly Strap - Black
Give it a try!
Nope, I have had that problem as well, starting in the 80s, though some screws do fit.Never had that problem. Maybe something has changed on the spec.

Whenever this happens, empirically, schaller's buttons are always in situ. There are multiple alternatives. You do as you must.
