Bass sustainer developed in 2000 what you think?

If you have something to track where you are on the fretboard, a regular tuner would do, that guesses the fundamental frequency. And when it's high enough, you'll start the reverse sustainer creeping in gradually. When it's down low (no money above fifth fret theory) then it's out of circuit and you have natural sustain again.
 
Do it before Ned Steinberger steals it (i e reads this)! That's the major gripe I've heard about his solid body upright NS design basses. Notes way up high sustains for too long, despite having the scale length of 40 inch. Otherwise they sound and plays good. Still costs a bit though.
 
hmm... and to really push it to extreme features...if you can choose which individual strings - or even notes - it should be active on you have a blockbuster, a proper tsunami, and one would be able to pull off the world famous double bass/electric bass intro to Lou Reeds hit "Walk On The Wild Side" without problems.

If you have it working on INDVIDIUAL NOTES of any bass guitar, I can remove the dead spots on my P and J basses immediately! No need to hunt down these basses anymore that have no dead spots. Ha ha... :woot:

about patent i have no problem, my drivers are isolated drivers for each string with a unique internal design and use nano materials to work with magnetic pulses i doubt eaven reverse engeniered someone will figure it out, about the feature of killing sustain , no worry too this technology employed is used in a lot of stuff and there's a lot of ways to do it , the cheaper is a custom circuit design wich will allow to put it on sale for a very low price, the easier but expensive is to use a micro chip ,there are a lot of companies that sell them for purposes like this, well i mean for this Physics properties.
this sustainer have a lot of features and now in working in the idea you gave me just waiting for parts here in town there's not one only store that sell electronic material the closest one is about 250km away, also im involved in many projects right now have to calculate carefully my time.
Has i build my own pots i easily can make a lot of blending configurations.
well soon i will have news ;)

Skip the Lou Reed part of this YT video of demonstration of the Moog guitar, go to the Vernon Reid part, with the "banjo" and reverse sustain, note that no acoustic modeller or ambience is needed, it still sounds "banjo" :



And there's a few comments below "is there a bass version?". To which no one has replied of yet. And listen to the following guy "blow" a solo on the acoustic double bass. Regardless of huge talent, and awesome chops (his intonation is flawless up the neck), listen to the NON SUSTAIN when he reach for those high notes up the neck. A percussive THUD is heard, and then almost nothing... that's when the string just pops out a short note, and then fades away immediately. This is a main natural thing of any upright bass. Unless you'll use a bow. But the "bow" impersonation should be fixed with the infinite sustain part ne's pas? :thumbsup: That one we've already covered and fixed (and has been carried out before, on other sustainer ideas).



I hope you all get what I am aiming at. Combine it, and you'll have a KILLER application, invention. "KILLSUSTAINER" ha ha... And if you just have to have a few dead spots on your bass just to be hard core retro you can put in these as well on select places all along the neck ... ha ha ha..;) If you have a too high end graphite neck with no dead spots in it.

That sounds very good. One thing to think of when trying to get the gradual non-sustain going on, is to not just concentrate on how high the notes are and reduce sustain accordingly. You have to think about the envelope too. I e how loud you strike the string. DYNAMICS and ATTACK. Those sustainer present today gives infinite sustain even if you just attack the string ever so slightly (even carress) OR banging on with full attack. Same with the "reverse" design. You should pay a lot attention of how hard or soft the string is struck when incorporating this idea. You know, I've tried the sustainiac, and sustainer of Fernandes guitars. When turning up loud, you just have to set the string into ANY vibration to make the sustainer go to feedback. However, on most of these solutions, when just brushing the string, it didn't trigger off. It was too weak. You have to pay attention to the dynamics in the reverse mode too, i e that if I pick and pluck very faintly, it should NOT sustain for any long, and that the trigger level isn't working like "you have to pick at a certain dynamic level before it kicks in". It's just that you copy the feel of an upright acoustic bass, and think of those lines, all of the time.

The way I play bass I have never felt the need for more sustain, quite the contrary..

Yes, me too, that's why I was pushing this in my first reply around here. No one didn't really get this before. And this is what I've been missing all these years, in the development of any electric bass guitar "unit" or new gadget. I couldn't care less, for more sustain, there's almost too much sustain anyway in most solid body electrics. But that's just IMHO. People seems to just want "hey, that's a cool new device" trying to play like Jimi Hendrix solos, with feedback, but on bass all of the time.

There sure's something to it, like a great fretless electric bass solo, with singing and soaring sustain now and then, but the contrary could be used just as much musically, if not even more. The need for rest strokes, double stops and short notes, will make you not have to dampen the "too long" notes with fingers all of the time. Remember that the first electric solid body basses actually came with sustain reducers, the foam muffled dampers on the earliest P and J basses, the "cover". Or ashtrays as I'd called them. But I learned later on that ashtrays was something else on Telecasters. It was the nickname for the bridge design.

I think today, it would be a great deal to have that option. Infinite sustain (to mimick the bow) or the contrary non-sustain (to mimick acoustic upright) at the flick of a switch. AS it is now, some kind of weird compromise, in between these two extremes. Technically it should be very easy to carry out, and you don't need at all to have any polyphonic thing going on, making it for all strings at the same time. And there's one thing more. I don't think it would be worthwhile to carry on with any HARMONIC switch, that locks the 5th harmonic node into any infinte sustain mode, or in the reverse sustain mode. Not on bass. I think it's way more important to concentrate on fundamentals here. In this case. On guitar, it's another ball game.

As for the Fishman Aura, and imaging techniques, this was replied of in another post way back in 2008:

So, why not beat them to it? It's more than five years ago, these statements!

Above statement - solved - combined with the "non-sustain". You're in for a killer. I think it's of crucial importance to have the actual string vibration react as on an upright, with little sustain. Only, and only then you can nail it. Not with any EQ, muffled foam bridges, synths, modelling or whatever.

Hello! been busy ;) sorry , assembling the parts i needed ,results theory worked in reallity, started building a 6 string bass to show the new pickups i developed and the final result of the sustainer/antisustain thing ;)
so i will come back in a few weeks with videos.
