Is there a specific bass tuner that will register the lower notes and not waver all over the place?
Im having bass tuning issues with my Boss TU2 tuner or any tuner for that matter. Ive just put up with it for years. E and A wont register correctly with every tuner I use. I wouldnt want to hassle with a rack mount units but I wish there was a good clip on or floor bass tuner out there that would pick up lower register.

Korg Pitchblack Custom handles my 5 string without any trouble.

Polytune should do the trick as well.

Most decent tuners should handle an E or A.

Are you talking the E and A in a standard EADG tuned 4 string?

Might be something else going on if it can’t even register the A…

Got good power/fresh batteries? Same thing happen with a different bass through the same tuner?

The TC Electronic Clip-on is hand-down the best clip-on I’ve ever used; it registers a B string with absolutely no problem.
It’s red-and green lighting scheme is bright, easy to see on the stage.
D’Addario makes an excellent clip on, which also does a good job with B strings...with one problem: in-tune is indicated by blue lights, which can be hard to see on stage or outside.
I’ve tried many of the clip-ons available; the TC is more expensive, but definitely worth the added cost.

I used the TC Electronic polytune pedal for years. It did the job. The strum every string thing isn't very usable on bass, though. I was putting together a smaller board a few months ago and I got a Peterson Strobostomp HD. Wow, what an upgrade. The big display is amazing. You can even run it full-time while not muted if you want to. And the precision is crazy. I mean all tuners are probably equally precise in terms of their mechanisms. But when you have to communicate pitch information with just six LEDs there's not much precision to be had. The strobe display lets you see with amazing precision. Great for doing intonation, etc.

I have a Peterson VSII and older StroboStomp that are great for detail work. They're moth-balled at the moment...I've been using the resident tuner on my SansAmp Bass Fly Rig.

To the OP: if the E & A don't register consistently on every tuner you've used, the tuners may not be culpable. Could be bad strings (less likely), a bad install (more likely), or your pick-ups are too high (plausible). The wavering may reflect "chorusing" which could be caused by any of the 3 aforementioned ailments.

I have trouble seeing red lights on a tuner outside..I like my TC clip, it's bright enough to work well outside
