In Wayne's World, when Alice Coopers band is playing, the bassist has a white Kramer Forum I. I own a red one, and am trying to pick up a white one right now actually, just have scheduling conflicts with the seller.

During their show at the fair just prior to heading to California, T.B. can be spotted playing a Fender Jazz bass, too. Love that movie, btw.

On the Netflix cartoon F is for Family, there 's a concert scene in one of the episodes. Shire of Frodo's bassist is playing a seafoam P bass:

I'm a big Mad Men fan, and I haven't had the opportunity to see this in really hi-definition (to check the tuners), but I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt and commending the '66-67 Jazz used for the Don Draper birthday party scene in which Megan sings "Zou Bisou Bisou". Also a nice Daphne Blue (probably--the warm lighting makes it a bit harder to tell) Strat!

You can definitely tell the bass was strung with round wounds as well, which was probably done for dramatic effect (or because someone was too lazy to restring with flats, which would have been accurate for the period.)

Thanks. Although it was cool that they featured a bass solo in a movie played by an actual bassist, I thought the tone was too modern for a movie set in 1964. That Fender rep should have strung the bass up with flats and installed a foam mute under the bridge cover. Of course they probably had no idea that you'd hear the actual bass during the movie.

When I saw that movie for the first time, everyone I was with turned and smiled at me after that scene. It was almost surreal...as though they added it just for me.

Yes, that was a bit of a misstep in an otherwise very enjoyable film. I didn't know they used the original take, it's understandable if they thought they were going to dub it later. I guess they thought nobody would notice but it sticks out like a bad case of fret sprout. BTW, I watch my director's cut DVD several times a year, it's one of my favorites and I think it may be time to watch it again.

I'm certain the rounds were kept on for dramatic effect to promote Wolfman's skills. That scene would not have had the same effect had Larry played on flats.

The Directors cut includes a cool scene when the band first gets to the theater to perform (this is their first "real" gig where they bomb on the first show.) It's a cool scene where no one else is around and the boys are standing on stage and looking up at all of the empty seats, just taking it all in, in silence. Director Tom Hanks lets the scene breathe, which adds to the dramatic effect.
