Basses that have 17mm bridge spacing..

SR5s and all MM 5s are 17.5MM. Years ago, in response to all internet chatter about "why doesn't MM make a 19mm spacing 5 string?," Sterling Ball announced he would take pre payments for a 19mm 5 string and if enough prepayments were made, they would do a production run. They didn't get anywhere near the number he needed to make a run without loosing money so all deposits were returned.

He then went on to reiterate that 17.5mm seems to be the general preference and pointed out that the SR5 is one of the most popular 5s available.

Hence they have kept their 5s ar 17.5.

Although there was a fairly small window to place the order and the only colour they were offering was black.

Fair enough. But the point was there was not enough of a demand as measured by people putting their "money where their mouths are." If you think about it, if you are getting something super rare in a limited run, who really cares if it only comes in black right?

All G&L 5 strings are 17mm, except the old L5000, which were built on a 4-string neck.

Other 17-17.5mmmm basses include: Modulus, Zon, Carvin/Keisel (standard neck-through models), Music Man, Spector/SSD, Peavey (Cirrus, Millennium, etc), Alembic, and probably many more.

If you step down to 16.5mm, add Ibanez and Warwick. If you step up to 18mm, Mike Lull and Yamaha come to mind.

Of course, there are many custom builders who'll make whatever you ask. Muckelroy and Devon are some of my favorites, but there are many.

For 4 string Jazz bass with 16.5 spacing - If you are familiar with Scott Devine from Scott's Bass Lessons, his Jazz bass made by Overwater has 33 scale, smaller body, and 16.5mm spacing. It also $3K.

It is an awesome bass. I'm trying to figure out how to get one but avoiding all the extra tariffs and cost from buying from the UK.

Why would you want a narrow spaced four string? ... this coming from a player not blessed with large hands or long fingers.

Also you might look at Warwick. I know their 5 string bridge has the ability to adjust the string width and I can't remember but I do not think the 4 string bridge is any different. The Corvette 5 which is a fine bass that can be generally had for a song has 16.5 mm spacing from the factory. The German five strings can be had all day long for under $700.
