Basses that just sound BAD...

Warwick's. I've just never found one that sounded good. I keep trying Warwick's out of some bizarre curiosity.

Fender Jazz and P basses. P's really aren't my thing but many seem to love Jazz's so I try them once in a while, remember why I didn't like them to begin with and go back to stuff I'm interested in.

I belive the title was "Basses that just sound BAD..".

Warwicks and fenders are not bad basses, you might not like them, but it didn't ask what you THOUGHT of certain basses, it asked what basses were just total crap. Don't know why i picked out your post, seems everyone took it the way you did.

You just proved my point. you "think" they just sound bad, it didn't ask what you thought. it was asking what basses are just plain bad. and if you think that warwicks and fenders are on the same level as a rockbass or a rouge, your an i idio.... your not that smart, and your not empressing anyone. You can not tell me that their are worse basses than fenders and warwicks, heck, i dislike the the tone of warwicks, but they are not "just bad" basses. It's a fact.

Besides, I dont think you gotta start telling people you think they are idiots.

I also think that Warwicks sound terrible. All the ones Ive tried except for an all wenge bolt on thumb (which sounded incredible I might add) mae me feel sick.

Im pretty sure it has to do with the woods since I cant think of any ovagnol or bubinga basses Ive actually liked the tone of.

I also think Ibanez SRs stink, but not as bad as Warwicks. I used to like their tone, but now I think they sound terribel and its impossible to get a good sound out of them. Thats just my opinion of course.

Poly, don't you hate it when you talk about someone's intelligence and in your next sentence you misspell a word?

I see your point, however. I do think the question is open to interpretation because it asks what you think "sounds" bad. To some people a warwick may sound terrible.

I have played plenty of basses that were not my "cup of tea" and I like to exclude obvious choices such as Rogue, Series10 etc etc. I recently played a Washburn 5 string I think it was the RB2000, it had a MM style humbucker in the bridge position and a jazz pickup in the neck position. Aside from the fact that the strings were really old that bass had no tone. No highs, no lows, no nothing!! Its a shame because it played pretty well and it has nice hardwarte and it looks great. I also dislike most Soundgear models althoough I have tried a few that I really liked, (most of the famous players models, ie. Verdine White, Gary Willis and Doug Wimbish)

Fender Ps are the best. I have a Yamaha BBG5A that sounds really great. Rickenbackers are good too. I just don't get your list. Maybe they aren't really your kind of sound, but bad? No way.

Woohoo, two yrs and going strong. Old thread. My very first bass, an Alvarez soundgear copy. Weighed nothing, and put out NO TONE. But hey, at least the playabilty SUCKED. Got ripped off, too - $200 used. :hmm:

Now that I think about it, it might have been made of hollow plastic.

Part of me feels this is a pointless thread as it takes far more than just the bass to get a good tone and part of me sees this thread as an excuse for a lot of people to rip the **** out of factory made bass's. Iv always been impressed with Warwick’s when Iv had the chance to play them (and I may buy a fretless Corvette in the next month or so) and I own a Gibson Les Paul Special 5 that I think sounds great. Being a student, I cant afford to spend £3000 on having a bass made for me, so I go with factory made bass's. Come on are you really saying that Warwick’s, Gibson’s and Fender’s sound bad in comparison to such wonderful makes as "Bender’s"?
