Yeah I've played these basses but cannot decide. If you were playing metal, trying to cut through devistating down-tuned guitarist shreditude, and wanted a cleaner sounding bass which one would you pick?

ibanez. simple, lightweight, great pickups for metal, and it looks pretty cool. i recommend it in white with black body lining
G&L for your choices. G&L is the best for the money you'll get. I'm assuming your within a budget, you may need to tell these people that.
I have a Standard p-bass and I'm usually overpowering a drummer, 2 guitarists, and a second bassist. P-Bass' are metal. 
I personally feel that the G&L will cut through without having to crank the volume. MTD comes in 2nd place.

Take a look at some metal players you like and see what basses/pickups they use.
Personally I've never been happy with any basses' pickups until I purchased a used Godin that had an EMG DC in the bridge and an EMG P in the neck. It is perfect for metal and everything in between just check out EMG's website for all the metal bassists that use their pickups.

This is really what I wanted to say. I just can't control myself.
GET A SADOWSKY *ahem* sorry. ... with any hum cancelling pickups. The best $2-4 grand you'll ever spend and you'll never need a new bass unless you choose to add to your collection.

1. In my experience, a Ric through an SVT tube with the 810 is pure power.
2. You can add a second battery to any bass with EMG pups or an Aguilar poweramp. That will help you cut through.
4. Consider using the SansAmp Bass Driver or similar as a preamp. You can even out and balance your attack and also add some grit.
5. I was under the impression, though, that all metal players either played Warlocks or ESPs, I mean there's four signature Tommy Araya bass guitars. Although, you can barely hear any bass in either Slayer and Metallica mixes.
