I have a Standard p-bass and I'm usually overpowering a drummer, 2 guitarists, and a second bassist. P-Bass' are metal.

A P-Bass with active pickups for sure.

Of those I voted for the Ibanez. MTD would be second choice.

Yeah I've played these basses but cannot decide. If you were playing metal, trying to cut through devistating down-tuned guitarist shreditude, and wanted a cleaner sounding bass which one would you pick?

Of the choices you listed I voted for the G&L but, a jazz bass would also work well in the situation, as would a Spector.

On a side note: Most of the bassists were using ESP/LTD at the shows I've seen over the past several years.

Of this group, I prefer the G&L. But, my favorite is the Stingray 4H. Right now, you might be able to find a nice used one or a GC clearance piece near your price range.

I own a MTD Artist, and it cuts very well. I think it's a combination of the body wood (basswood) and the high output preamp in the bass. And, it is a growly lil guy too. It cut great through my old band, with a hard hitting drummer and a guitarist who liked his amps bass knob +10'd. And we were tuned to drop C sharp.

Its flexible too, I am using it with flats currently for when I jam with acoustic players and it gets a nice fat thump.

I can't get a Rickenbacker, or a Warwick, or a MM Bongo.
Maybe a Stingray 4 but I thought the G&L had a more unique tone to it
which is why I added it to my options. I don't want to be buried in the mix.

I agree. I voted for the G&L. But let me note that if you were me, you'd be setting the G&L to "single coil" to the clean tone "edge" to cut through. Which does not come on a factory G&L and requires a mod.

And my favorite would be the Stingray too. That allows single coil, humbucker and all in-between. It is, of course, very similar to the G&L but for what you want I'd give it the edge. A Ric is an excellent choice too.
