YES! My roommate had the great Jackie McLean as a professor in college for a jazz history class. When some students asked why they had not covered Mingus yet, he looked 'em in the eye and screramed "Mother****er tried to stab me!"Scottie Johnson said:Wasn't Mingus a little on the crazy side. He doesn't look scary, but I've read some interesting stories about his temperment.

I have heard from cats that are Mingus-o-philes, that he had a temper that was pretty fierce... so who knows, yeah that sounds about right.Scottie Johnson said:If anyone know is this is true, post the answer:
I have heard that members of Mingus' band carried guns to protect themselves from HIM.

FunkKing said:I did a little Wikipedia research on Mingus;
"While onstage at a memorial concert he reportedly attempted to crush his pianist's hands with the instrument's keyboard cover, then punched trombonist Jimmy Knepper in the mouth. Jackie McLean once stabbed Mingus after Mingus punched him, fearing the bassist was about to kill him."
Crazy.
