Bassists you just can't watch

I can't stand watching Pete Wentz (a lame emo band I won't name here) play!! It aggravates me to no end. Not only does he "play" a bass like it's a guitar, he can't play live to save his life!!!! Aggggghhhhhh!!!!

Watch if you dare...

+1

I've never seen someone strum at the 17th/18th fret before. It sounds like butt mud to me. I don't mind being high energy and jumping around, and there's nothing wrong with using a pick, but that is just eww.

I've been enjoying this PBS special about the Beach Boys. I've come to realize that I've always been a little more than irritated with Brian Wilson's bass style. He plays/holds it almost like a prop.. so awkward looking.

But there can be no doubt of his songwriting and production/arranging genius however.

Honestly I hate Fallout Boy but kinda always thought "Hey, Pete can't be that bad, he has a signature bass and he's a touring musician so he must have SOME chops..."

This video has just confirmed otherwise, god knows how he's gotten as far as he has... FFS at one point in that clip he was strumming up past the 12th! No wonder these kids cut themselves so much, he must hate himself when he practices :D

Jeff Berlin.

He wears blue jeans and blazers, like it is 1985. He's just anti-hip. And that chorusy sound he goes for gets to me. . .

Monster player, and I respect him greatly, but his just not very cool. And he bosses musicians around on stage, giving bad looks, and bad vibes.

I always think that he's traumatized because he thinks he's better than Jaco, and never has gotten nearly the recognition.
