yep it looks like it was shut down early. I've been trying to visit the site all day.
No doubt Talkbass is the best at what it does, but I must be a member of 10 or more forums. They all have something different that I like about them.Talkbass is a forum you can't beat
I didn't. Honestly, it was pure verbal diarrhea from someone who was clearly undone for whatever reason.
I never visited that forum. Never even heard of it until yesterday.

I enjoyed the place, It was a good forum for bass effects lovers to talk shop and what ever else with out effects hater trolls and no G rated forum polices being enforced.

So...BassTalk247 was cool until the people who "take themselves too seriously" and the "hypocrites" came along? There was nothing in place to keep these interlopers from destroying the site so quickly? The "original group" shares no responsibility for the demise? It seems to me that the meltdown came way too quickly to place the blame on uptight members. BassTalk247 should have flourished without all those pesky TB-style draconian rules...right? Yet it's now permanently closed.
Maybe rules actually work. They'll never be perfect (because people will never be perfect), but they keep things in check enough for a site to stay together.
"Passive aggressiveness & veiled insults" are a pain, and difficult to monitor. Direct attacks and rampant thread hijacking, however, can and should be dealt with, and have been dealt with here on TB, making it a better place, IMO.
A site where members just let the fur fly yet still maintain a overall sense of helpfulness, respect and civility? I have yet to see it.

Yeah the thread was pretty whacked out. I read it but didn't screen capture it. And yes, the site is down now, before the various different deadlines that Ed stated it would be up until...

As someone who frequented both this site and that one, I was sorry to see it grow. Actually, there were some great music discussions - some of them got more in depth than here. Sometimes things don't work out. One advantage of a larger site (although that one was growing) is that it gives a layer of isolation, where you are not too "involved".
It's not closed because the no rules approach didn't work. It's closed because the owner tried to force rules on the members after the fact and then had a mental breakdown. If he would have shared the views of the members and not been out of his mind, it would still be up. I truly worry less about the site being closed and more about Ed being okay.
Seems to me it's closed because its owner wanted it closed. Similar to the popular line around here of no free speech in a private forum, it's a private enterprise solely controlled by its owner. This place could go dark at any time if the owner so decided. I infer from my extremely limited knowledge that Ed wanted his site run a certain way, got some major flak and crap from his members, then decided to say "eff it" and shut the thing down in a spectacular display of Rage Closing.
As a business owner I can say that when things don't go your way it certainly can make you seem like you've lost your mind, whether you actually have or not. Or maybe I have...

As you said, your own "extremely limited knowledge". Obviously even those who were there don't know all. Let's not start making assumptions.
