So...BassTalk247 was cool until the people who "take themselves too seriously" and the "hypocrites" came along? There was nothing in place to keep these interlopers from destroying the site so quickly? The "original group" shares no responsibility for the demise? It seems to me that the meltdown came way too quickly to place the blame on uptight members. BassTalk247 should have flourished without all those pesky TB-style draconian rules...right? Yet it's now permanently closed.
Maybe rules actually work. They'll never be perfect (because people will never be perfect), but they keep things in check enough for a site to stay together.
"Passive aggressiveness & veiled insults" are a pain, and difficult to monitor. Direct attacks and rampant thread hijacking, however, can and should be dealt with, and have been dealt with here on TB, making it a better place, IMO.
A site where members just let the fur fly yet still maintain a overall sense of helpfulness, respect and civility? I have yet to see it.
