Now, a moment of sadness :(:bawl:

The electronics in my Bee is ruined. There is a constant noise in the background, the sounds from the bass itself is perfect, all strings, but its just that noise. Today, I wanted to play my bass and the noise is constant and it gets worse. Before today, the noise came now and then. The sounds resembles an untuned radio, lots of static white noise.

Im gutted :(

Are you sure it's the bass? Does the amp make the noise when the bass isn't plugged in? How about when another bass is plugged in? Different cable?

Does your Bee have a passive mode? If so, do you still get the noise in passive mode?

Is your playing environment any different? Are you using a different outlet, or have you got any new lighting or electrical equipment in the area (thinking EMI)?

If it is your bass, you could always try swapping the battery. Granted, this noise isn't typical of a battery failing, but you might as well try before you ship that thing back across the Atlantic.

Of course, you should try emailing/calling Fred to talk to him. Of course, reaching Fred is like damn near impossible, but if you tell him your electronics are crapping out, it might initiate a snappier response. Sorry to hear about your troubles; good luck with everything!

Humm, I really dont know about the preamp and piezo really, since the piezo saddles and the preamp and magnetic pickups are coupled into the the piezobuffer(like a hub) and the signals to the jack goes from there. I do actually believe that BIG CHEETO is right about this, and the piezo buffer is simple to replace, no soldering etc.

Yeah, Brado, my soldering "hand" is like parkinson, not good at all. But I recieved mail from Fred yesterday, we agreed its gotta be the piezo buffer. He will send me a replacement :) The buffer is a simple fix, just unplug 3 plugs and done, no soldering required :)

Yikes! I've never heard of a BEE PRE going bad. The only time I've ever suffered the loss of a pre was when some kid, at a church I was playing at, plugged a cable into my bass/ but it wasn't the cable leading to my amp....it was the speaker cable that was SUPPOSED TO BE plugged into the drummer's monitor (coming from the output of the power amp)....as the power amp was still on with music being played through the aux channels....ZAP. I hope that all get's resolved soon.

Yeah, hope so too! 3800$ bass that doesn't work properly :(
But it happens, Im not mad or angry, just abit dissapointed, but Fred is a great guy to deal with, we'll get it sorted out. :)
This is case is one in a million, I have never heard a Bee Pre gone bad, but things like that can happen to anything, even its a bass or a luxury car. :)

And James... grats on a new bass! Can't wait to see it! :)

On a serious note; I think you've dot the right attitude about the whole thing. Yeah; it sucks when the 3G+ bass has a bum preamp....it's something that was out of Fred's control. He uses the Bee Pre because it is rock solid & one of the best sounding out there. He doesn't build it though. Same deal with my 5....it had the graphite neck that bowed & twisted......out of Fred's control. That's what happens when you out source, I suppose. It sounds like you got that one-in-a-million that crapped out.

Things like this happens! Even a Rolls-Royce can have it faults! No bitterness from me! :)

Anyways! I talked to Fred via phone, seriously, he is such a great guy, just the tone from his voice tells me that he is a real positive and down to earth! He'll send me the new preamp tomorrow, and infact, this is first time he have encountered problems with his preamps, I'll send back the old one to Fred, so he can troubleshoot it further. And I was lucky, if this conversation happened like tomorrow, then most likely I had to wait like a 1.5 week.

Cant wait to get my bass up going again!
