Begantino HD VS CN- winner!!!

HD's are great cabs for sure, love mine. Kjung's clips of the CN sound great and I'm cool with neo's so I'm sure I would love those but almost a year later and still honeymooning with the HD's.

Like you I went shopping intending on buying one cab and ended up with another. In my case planned on buying a HD410 but I ended up with a HD212 (and then a HD112). HD410 is a fantastic sounding cab and I'm sure I would have been happy with it but the HD212 edged it out because the mids of my J bass sounded a bit more full.

Bet that 7 Pro sounds awesome with the HD's! Enjoy the new cabs!

The HD cabs have a wonderful low mid kick that I just love, have not heard that from any of the neo stuff so far....
CN series arrive in the UK this month at which time I will a/b them, can't see me making a switch though.

Hard to make any sort of determination of the tone of a cab in a shop if you don't know what sort of use it has had. With my knowledge of the break-in of the CN cabs, I would plug some music into it at medium volume for a couple hours to ensure they had opened up before putting them on the floor for demos. If you're sure that the cabs you played through had all been well-used before your evaluation, then let your ears be your guide. If, however, they might not have had enough use, then it might be worth giving them another listen.

sounds like they had about 15 hours of play time minimum- should be more than enough time to "break in". Yes- tone is subjective- I couldn't get my Streamliner to where it needed to be for my tone, others found their tonal bliss. I think I've been saying that clearly in this thread. I don't want to sell anyone on anything, just throwing my opinion out there even though it goes against the flavor of the month. Personally I think there are ton of cabs that would work for me- the Bergs just happen to be local so I can play them and a/b them like crazy prior to purchase. I also judged them against GK, Mesa, and Aguilar cabs. It's fantastic when a store has all the cabs and heads set up on instant switchers- I could literally go from the HD212 to the CN212 in one second- the differences were VERY obvious when testing with such a great set up. Jim makes great stuff either way- if you want heavier ceramic cabs that sound one way you got it- lighter neos that sound another way, well, there you go. I went one way- someone probably went the other later in the afternoon....

I tell you what- that damn 7pro blows my mind most nights. Such a warm head, with so much thump. Such a simple eq, compressor works great, and power for days. I get gassy looking around here, then I play another gig and realize what I have is damn near perfect....

I'm still using my HT112er/EX112er which essentially is the same drivers as the HD line with slightly different tweeters. Love em love em love em. the modular set up is very sweet. Many times just used one cab and still fills the room nicely. Two just has that extra something. I've never played on a 212 but I can't imagine it being much different than the two 112 boxes. at about 43 lbs./box and I get the ceramics. Win Win for me.

however,there is quite a bit of love for the AE line so I'm sure it spills over into the new CN's as well. I'm just happy I'm happy with my set up or I'd be dropping some coin too.
one thing for sure, whichever line one chooses it's a +1 with the Bergs.

here's a message I sent to another TBer today- quick review of a gig last night- too lazy to type it all again ;)

"Absolutely shocked last night- took only one like I said because we crammed everything into one rig- the bar held about 200 and was capacity. Great FOH support but I don't think they put any bass in the monitors. During sound check I tried to push it a little and was honestly so loud and big I just backed off as to not annoy anyone. I had to push my amp a little since it's just an 8ohm box, but seriously I'm starting to think that the ONE hd112 could handle most of my gigs, no joke. For what it's worth my cabinets in the past have always been 410, 810, 215, 210- never have played 12's and would have NEVER thought a single 12 could pull off a gig legitimately- I knew I could probably pass with one but be disappointed in my sound- not the case at all. If I had my eyes closed I would have thought I was playing through a monster rig. The backline there was a huge older 410- my speaker looked like a toy up there- but the whole band went nuts when they heard what she could do. I'm seriously blown away... "

That's exactly what I need to hear right now. I went to a gig last night. It was another band that our promoter markets, "old school" funk and R&B with a little Latin. The bassist had a nice GK rig. I can't remember the head, but I'm pretty sure it was the neo 212 cabinet. And I know he was in the PA but his tone got swallowed up in that room. The only thing I could distinctly hear was his high end when he was slapping. His low end and low mids were just mud...

Good stuff! :cool: The CN212 is a very, very impressive cab, but so far, the HD212 is still my top dog when it comes to unpowered bass enclosures.

It's amazing to me that a guy like Jim who does not play bass can hit so many bass cab designs out of the park, but that's exactly what he does! :bassist: :bassist: :bassist: :D

My HD212 absolutely slammed tonight, wonderful tight but deep low end, growly articulate mids and sweet high end, I don't think it gets any better. Pairs nicely with the Markbass LM800 which was literally just ticking over, masses of headroom to spare!

I've heard so many of the GreenBoy fans talk about how their cabinets can hold their own with 810s- I'm starting to be a believer. The HD112 sounds bigger than my old Genz Benz 410XB I think. I'm so pleased right now, and frankly should be given the amount of scratch I shelled out ;) I honestly never knew a single 12 could handle a gig like I had last night- messing with my mind really....

Not to go OT, but the guys at Gelb (Ed in particular) are a great bunch. I've gone in there many times thinking one way, and left with something else, often less expensive and always exactly what I needed. They know their products, and they know their clientele, and always seem to match up what works best for each player. Can't say enough good things about these guys.

I'm very curious to get over there and try out the CN's myself. I'm actually pretty happy with my Accugrooves, but one must always keep an open mind.

so true Alan- Ed is who I worked with and had me playing cheaper gear, telling me to go grab lunch and think about it before buying etc. Great guy, super knowledgeable, and no BS. Accugrooves are incredible cabs- I was talking to them a few years back about buying some cabs then they went under. Too bad as they were super nice guys as well....

I brought my HD212 from Nordyboy (I must have caught him at a weak moment) and paired it with a 7pro and I have to say its perfect for me, it sounds as big as anything I've had before but so clear and tight with it! Ido wish it looked more like a rock stack but tone wins this battle! :)

Really glad you are still loving that setup. I bought another new HD212 a few weeks ago :D
