Behringer poll..

So which one

  • Behringer BB210 600W with horn

    Votes: 19 59.4%
  • Behringer BB115 600W with horn

    Votes: 13 40.6%

  • Total voters
    32
Some say that Behringer is no good, I disagree..

So if you want just say something negative about Behringer, which is nothing to do with this question, please don`t.

And the question is wich one:
I have narrowed my new rig options in two (or three) an here they go:
I will buy poweramp, this one: [Invalid or Expired Link Removed]
500w bridged, two cooling fans and 3years warranty.

should I pair it with:
Behringer bb210 or bb115

why those two??? I have heard lot`s of good things about these cabs, and the power handling seems to be superrior in the pricerange.
Why not alucone? Becoase I don`t trust them, especially when we may use them in near zero weather conditions (winter is long and cold here). And I have seen Hartke alucones fail in low wattages and I really don`t want that.

So the
bb210:
+smaller
+louder
+easyer to transport
-not so good frequency responce as the competitor
-looks bit small when on stage between 1/2stacks

bb115
+better handling in lows
+looks better
-only one speaker
-not so loud, but is enough for club gigs

there is allso third one, this: [Invalid or Expired Link Removed]
but it doesn`t look so roadworthy than the Behringers.

and the other gear I use is 5-string Jazz copy (passive) and some wah, chorus and distortion with Behringer BDI21.

Music style is Rock/Metal

For bigger gigs PA-support is currently awailable.

I hope that this is my last post before I can finally go and by new rig.

thanks.. (don`t be mad for making so many question posts...)

and BTW in future I may buy another one, but right now I can only go another one

Let me chime in by stating that power handling is really a poor choice for parameters to use in your comparison. Thermal power handling is one parameter which can be used easily for advertising but has very little clout when the driver is put in an enclosure. Mechanical power handling is often a limiting factor for bass cabinets and can be significantly lower than the thermal handling. In addition, even if it's an RMS rating (not Peak), there is no statement of how the rating was arrived at. Was one cycle put through the test speakers at the rated RMS power handling, or was it done for a minute or an hour? That can make a difference.

My point here is that you could expand your options if you considered other more important measures of performance. I'm not bashing any products, merely suggesting the opportunity to try more than one brand. You would benefit a lot from actually trying out some cabinets and choosing based on their capabilities and sound rather than the specifications you find on the websites (which are universally very wrong) and a poll.

My suggestion: Neither. Browse the used products and try lots of cabinets out if you have a store nearby. Give a good look at Avatar speakers.

In relation to aluminum cones, aluminum's mechanical properties relating to speaker cones (purely elastic strain) do not change significantly within the range of temperatures provided by nature. Most certainly, the failure of an aluminum speaker cone was not due to temperature.

most likelly true.. but what is good parameter?? they have good frequency responce and thay seem somewhat efficient too.. I would still like to see Frequency diagram which shows freq and volume..

well aluminium moves a lot in temperatures between -20c* and +20c* but I`m not completelly shure if it affects the durability. Still alucones seem to break much easyer, despite the fact that Hartke endorses them as most durable speaker type.

There is just no such thing as Avatar here.. sorry cold fact.

well there is only combos and some freaking Kuston Groovebass cabinets that cost like hell.. to me attleast.

if you find something good used here, it is real found.. not so much good affrodable gear around here..

so that is why I have narrowed those two..

I know absolutelly nothing about anything, but I`m willing to lear.. That is main reason why I`m at TB...

Not bashing, just a warning:

I'd try out the Harley-Benton 4x10 that you posted. It looks pretty sweet and though I have no experience with them, it's ratings suggest a decent entry-level cabinet.

As for the Behringers, their cabinets aren't their strength. They do have a lot of good electronic stuff like FX and preamps, poweramps, etc. But there are just too many horror stories involving their cabinets for them to be trustworthy.

Because there are no good specifications posted by Behringer or nearly anybody else, the best parameters available to you are what your ears tell you and, to be honest, how much is in your wallet. These should be mutually exclusive, but aren't. You can get good gear cheap but it takes some work and knowledge. The WORST parameter to use is your eyes.

The specifications posted by manufacturers are universally incorrect (barring Phil Jones Bass and Bill Fitzmaurice who actually post the graphs and their standard measurement procedures) and in many cases physically impossible. The reasons for that are way off-topic and have been given in other threads. These numbers cannot be relied upon even for comparison's sake.

Aluminum's thermal expansion (or contraction) may be responsible for the failures we've seen pictured where the voice coil former has separated. However, that's very different from the "it gets brittle in the cold" comments I've seen and referred to.

There has to be some other good budget gear available in Finland. Is there anything from Fender, Crate, Peavey, or are there other brands that I may not know of? I'm just suggesting that you may benefit from some comparison.

That is just the think I tryed to say about alucones.

And yeas there is used gear here, but it is relativelly expencive.
For example Peavey cab with 1x15 and 2x8 is 380€ used.. only handles 200w RMS.. sounds bit expencive to me.

I can get used Hartke VX 115 allmost in same price as new Beheringer 115 (Hartke is bit more and only 200w)

And I like to believe that wattage ratings tell me attleast something about the volume and headroom I will get..

here is local used section about guitar gear if you have time and intrest to take a look: Invalid Link Removed
mainly in finnish but you can see gear names and prices..
and 100€ is same as 131$

and "The WORST parameter to use is your eyes." I know.. still it feels bit stupid to go to gig with little 210.. it really doesn`t mather much to me tho.. #offthopic#
that is more something that my guitarist is worried about.. he just have to get 412 becoase it looks cool.. he doesn`t need it, it is really hard to move from one place to another.. but it is something that guitaris must have to be good.. #offthopic#

and about that Harley Benton cabinet.. the specs seem really good, but I have heard (from reviews) that they do not have very durable constuction.. but they have Eminence drivers (Alpha I think).. only reviws I have seen are in Germany, and I don`t speak it much..

BassIan and all others, I really appreciate your comments.. thanks.. keep them coming

Do you have stores with trial periods, i.e. 45days?

Best way to try these tings is on the job. In the store just doesn't do it. Behringer warranty in US is an exchange for 1 year, so beat it as much as possible while it's in warranty.

Too bad Behringer doesn't provide specs, but they don't have to because all that they compete against doesn't do it either.

actually I`m ordering from thomann and they give 3years warranty to everything they sell (few exceptions) or from Musik-produktiv which has 5years warranty..
thomann has 30day trial period allso.. but that is in Germany.. there is no big musicstores around here like thomann or guitarcenter..

I may be able to comment more later this evening - gotta get back to work now.

Darn those 412s :crying: ... my guitarist uses a 1x12. Thank goodness. :bassist:

You realize that with a single 8 ohm cab, you aren't going to be getting 500 watts out of that amp, right? You'll be closer to 200 watts. A combo would be a better choice. I'm glad you won't have a Hartke cab to cook; I'm tired of hysteria driving the value of my 4.5 down. :)

actually that amp is bridged 500w/8ohms...

and the only thing that I don`t like Hartke is that the 410 BXL I play in school has blown drivers and it ratless like hell whit moderate volumes.. I have hard time to believe the fact that someone has blown that cab with Hartke 3500 head.. with only one chanel going to it.. doesn`t that make something like 170w..
I like Stu Hamm`s tone with those Hartkes, but I just don`t want to use them here..

Okay, I guess my math was backwards then. Sorry about that.

Just FYI you can run 300 watts of clean power through a 200 watt cab all day long and it probably won't hurt it. It's when you run 200 watts from a 200 watt amp through a 600 watt cab that you have problems. As mentioned before, RMS handling specs from one manufacturer to another don't mean a heck of a lot.

+1 Go for the Behringer 15" - I've been playing live for 30 yrs & for 15 or so years I used a sigle 1x15" under a tube amp. This will give U the bottom end U need to "fill" the room/rehearsal etc......
Later when U save more $$$ U can get a 2x10" or another 1x15" to sit on top ....if U like!
sit the cab on a crate to get it closer to yr ears & u should be pumping!:D

Topsy turvy
Running 300w into a 200w cabinet may blow it. That's why the cab is rated 200w. It handles 200w, not 300w.
