Behringer Stomp Boxes are coming!

Roady - let me know what you think of the BOD - I'm still undecided on the whole Overdrive thing (not sure if it's a sound I'm after).
Maybe a BOD or maybe a BDI ? - something to give me a little more 'edge' to my sound on the heavier songs......

I noticed BlueAran are now quoting December for the pedal tuner (although the Behringer site still says 'To Be Announced' so maybe BlueAran are just being hopeful!)

Lastly - there is a shop on eBay selling behringer pedals at £16.50 with free P&P (which is even cheaper than BlueAran) - no idea about the seller (never used them) but they have got the BEQ and the BOD on there (search eBay for 'behringer bass' in 'Musical Instruments' section)

Will do :) I think its going to sound very similar to the ODB-3, but Ill let you know anyway.

Also, I recieved an email from BlueAran today saying my order has been dispatched, and when I check on the website it says all three pedals have been shipped - which is strange because the Delay pedal isnt available until novemember according to the BlueAran site, and the release date is still TBA on the Behringer site...

I should be getting them tommorow or wednesday, and ill be picking them up from my house on friday/saturday - so ill take a few pics and let you guys know what they're like.

FYI, I was just at a music shop that was selling a bunch of the behr stomp boxes. The Flanger they had was labled on the box as being for both bass or guitar. I bought my brother an acoustic modeler pedal for his birthday just now, as he had tried the Boss one, but never though it was quite worth the 80 or so dollars they were charging for it. He liked it, but not enough to keep it.

The Bass Overdrive is terrible.
It buzzes like crazy, drills your eardrums and basically has 2 sounds on extreme settings, squealing whale and bee nest.
Lows are nowhere to be seen.
It's crappy but not even in a funny or interesting way.

The BDI is actually quite decent, especially for the price.

Now if only they could come with a decent loop/sampling unit. It's not like you needed pristine quality for these. More sampling time and editing capacities.

I have the Behringer BOD100 (Bass Overdirve) and I too thought that it sucked when I first got it. I have had it about two weeks and I'm starting to warm up to it. The knobs are very sensitive. After playing around with it, I can now get a subtle overdrive without a lot of bass loss. In fact, I can dial it up to sound almost identical to my BDDI. It isn't really good for heavy amounts of overdrive though; it sounds too muffled and there is some bass loss at that point. Right now I have it set up to give me a little more grit than the BDDI, and for $20 it does the job.

I also have the BLE100 and the BCH100. I love the Limiter Enhancer. Probably the cheapest compression available right now, and it really makes a noticeable difference. I am still playing with the Chorus pedal and am starting to like the sounds I can get out of it.

Lots of opinions about thses pedals. Allow me to give my take on them. In my opinion they are useful and worth every penny. Are they top shelf? No. Nor are they meant to be. Some people play $50 strings and some people play $20 strings. So why not have similar choices in pedals? The whole rip-off/reverse engineering/stolen technology argument is a joke to me. Who cares? When people start injecting ethics into these arguments, it is really laughable to me. Since when it is unethical to take something somebody is making and do it cheaper? Isn't that the essence of competition? When these people buy gasoline do they consider the ethics of Shell, Sunoco or Exxon in there purchasing decision? I have strong doubts. Has anyone ever noticed that Boss, and Digitech and (fill in the blank) all charge around $80 for most of their pedals? Do people think this is a giant coincidence? I think it means we are all paying too much for these pedals. Granted the Behringer pedals are plastic (but very durable nonetheless), so it is not apples to apples, but these things are real close in terms of the $80 pedals in sound quality to my ears. If they end up selling a ton of these things then good for them. And good for us, because it will probably mean that we will be paying less for pedals down the road.

Ok, I will get off my soap box now.

I previously posted how unimpressed I was w/ the BDI21 I bought...well, the Limiter/Enhancer and the Bass Chorus are polar opposites, IMO.
They arrived today and I promptly took them to a rehearsal at church tonight to give them the once over...here are my initial impressions:
1-obviously not built to the standard of construction (plastic bodies, cheesy hinge system, fragile feeling knobs) of the Boss units they copied, but then again, they shouldn't be, IMO, for $20US.
2-L/E operates as it should w/o any surprises...compression is rather pleasant and smooth to my ears... the "enhance" mode does a decent job of rebuilding the upper harmonics squashed by the compression at higher ratios (slap type settings)
3-the chorus has now replaced my old unit, which I wouldn't have thought would have happened! It is very tasteful, rather quiet and doesn't seem to touch the lows much w/ what seems like a good crossover freq selection (the "shape" control seems to act as a variable crossover)
4-If the EQ (backordered) is as good as these other 2, it'll be a keeper as well.

Overall, I'm very pleased w/ the spending of this small amount of my hard-earned money....even if it does say the "B" word on 'em ;)

To conclude,
I own a SansAmp BDDI and some of the same Boss units these Behringer pedals are meant to copy...the BDI21 didn't come close but the Lim./Enhan. and the Chorus are home-runs!

YMMV, try em and decide for yourself.

ummm, since always... I put money and time into research and development and you come along and rip off what I created. You profit off my hard work.... If you want to develop you own idea that directly competes with my idea - game on, lets see who does better. But don't steal my idea and sell it as your own. You are being selfish to say I don't care how I get it as long as I get it cheap.

Sometimes you have to pay for quality. The "whatever is cheapest is fine with me" guy eventually gets what he paid for... less and less.

I'll stop before the fine line this thread is on slips across the line

Fulltime Tim:

I have to respectfully disagree. I own two restaurant franchises that specialize in chicken wings. Without going into a long (and probably boring) dissertation, I'll just say that I've got competitors all over town trying to rip me off. I'm also an attorney. I don't own any patent on making wings, so people can try to copy my sauce, copy my prices. Obviously, if they started violating my patents, trademarks and copyrights it would be different situation.

I'm sure Behringer had some attorneys tell them what they could get away with and what they probably couldn't get away with. (As an aside, maybe those attorneys didn't do such a great job for them because Behringer had to change the design of these pedals before they were launched once Boss started making some noise about them.)

My point was essentially that Behringer has just as much right to produce pedals that sound like Boss pedals as companies that make knock-off golf clubs have to make drivers with changeable weights that resemble Taylor Made R7's. What is the difference between these pedals and guitars or basses that are knock-offs? As long as Behringer doesn't come out and claim it is a Boss pedal or violate any patents, etc. they are not doing anything wrong.

One thing we certainly agree on is that you get what you pay for. And from my experience, these pedals are well worth $20.

Got to use the two new boxes today...still loving the chorus...
The limeter has proved to be rather noisy for my taste.
I still feel that it functions fantastically if you can deal w/ the noise level (and I feel that many will be able to)
On another note, got an email saying that the backordered EQ box will be here on Tues of next week...hope it falls in line w/ the chorus and not the LE
...will post upon evaluating it as well...'til then...

since music123 finally got their act together and delivered my BOD100, i decided to take it and the Bass Chorus and Ultra Flanger to my gig saturday night.

I used the chorus several times during the night and it sounded great, nice shimmering/ringing tones. It was really easy for me to get a setting i liked. The same with the flanger. I usually don't use a flanger sound so I set it to be "obvious" and got a nice lush sweeping sound that was very pleasing. ( I tested this pedal with my guitar and was impressed by the range of sounds I could get from it, from light airy sounds to big swooping sounds, the fact that it sounded good with my bass was just a bonus)

I really didn't get a chance to use the Bass overdrive since we didn't play the songs that I would have used it on. I did notice that I could get a real fuzzy OD sound and not lose a lot of bass, but as I was messing with it I found myself turning down the OD and turning up the level for more boost with a little grit added..i'll need some more time to experiement with it. I'm definitly not unhappy with it.

So far, I have 7 of the Beh stomps (not counting the new DI's) and i'm pleased with all of them. They are all quiet and don't appear to suck tone. The guitar overdrives (BO100, OD100) and the Ultra Chorus and Flanger sound great on guitar. The bass chorus is nice as well and the flanger works well with the bass.

Also, turning the off/on with my foot on stage took minimal effort and I did not feel like I was going to break or crush the pedals. And the LED indicators on them are really bright and easy to see.

so....im just soooo anxious to know about when the delay is going to be available.... $25 cant beat it. im currently in the market for a delay and the next thing up is the ibanez for $70 so I am really looking forward to this delay coming out. some sites say november, does anyone know about a possible date?

i belive the bass pedal is desiged for bass and the ultra is for guitar/keyboard. i think the bass pedal specifically alter the higher frequencies of the bass while the other pedal does another sort of thing.

Yes, as far as I'm aware, the Bass Chorus is meant to have a crossover on it to allow the bass frequencies to pass through 'un-chorussed'.

However, the Shape control (which is what I assumed would control this crossover), doesn't appear to do that (well not according to my ears) - I think it's changing the 'shape' of the modulation wave used to create the chorus.

All I can say is the Bass Chorus doesn't 'steal' or 'muddy' the bottom end of the sound, and it simply provides a lovely chorus sound (as gentle or 'extreme' as you want) on the higher notes / frequencies.

Hope this helps....

Paul
