Lenovo Edge 2, 15.6" diagonal 2-in-1 touch screen, Intel Core i7

Still futzing with various settings to optimize the display aspect ratio and performance specifically for the XR18 X-Air. It's pretty much good-to-go right out of the box, but I'm sure there are some simple tweaks that can optimize things.

So far so good, though. I'll continue to post up anything worth noting.

You can use it with a mouse, but that's just slow and awkward for live use IMO. The touch screen give you the ability to tap and swipe for quick moves, but if you need to get clinical or do data entry, the mouse pad or USB mouse and physical keypad give you that latitude. The size of andriods and iPads make them convenient, but with a bigger screen to work with, you can leave the effects on screen for tweaking effects on-the-fly, for example, which is difficult on a smaller format IMO.

I have a 13.3" Android tablet I bought cheap a couple years ago - I'm pretty sure they still make large screen Android tablets. I can fit everything on one "layer" - but I only have an XR12...

For those of you using an external router, which one and why? I'm having issues with my internal router. Laptop hooks up fine, ipad, no bueno. Firing up my old metro cell phone that I use as a controller with my UI16 seems to kill the Wi-Fi in the XR-18, to the point where I have to reboot. Super no bueno.

I have a Galaxy Tab Pro 12.2, the android version. Samsung recent came out with a similarly named tablet that runs Windows 10. I got a USB OTG connector in the mail yesterday and used it to make a hard wired connection to my XR-18. No more taking my laptop to gigs in case of wifi issues.

Cool. I considered going that route. Not a fan of add-ons. My choice also considers the many other computer tasks I have going on, and tablets/androids/smart phones just don't cut it for those tasks, for a lot of reasons.

Until I'm fully comfortable with tablet/ipad control over the x-air, my strategy is to always hedge against catastrophe, if possible. I'll hard wire my Lenovo 2-in-1 and x-air to the router, and then see how well the wireless solutions function for mobile tweaking. After a few gigs doing it this way, I'll have much better idea of what is necessary or not, and with luck I'll eventually be able to leave the 2-in-1 home. Not going to rely on the x-air's built-in wifi, though...at least not yet.

Thinking back over the 11 months since I started using my XR18, mostly running our own sound from the stage, every show I've done I've used the internal wifi. The handful where I ran sound from FOH for other bands, I used an external antenna on the internal router and connected a laptop and/or tablet wirelessly. I've had a few dropped connections while running from the stage, but have always just reconnected between songs and went on about my business. All of the dropped connections I can specifically recall were in the same venue. I think they use wireless security cameras there. I know my wifi analyzer shows a ton of activity and that's the toughest wifi environment I deal with. I carry a backup router, but have never used it other than testing it at home. I've seen a lot of complaints about the built in wireless, but my experience has been very good.

Encouraging. Due to the flow of songs during our sets, we generally don't do any hard stop/breaks unless there is a serious reason for it to happen, and usually to the displeasure of the other band members on stage. Even if I were pretty fast at doing an on-the-fly reconnect, I wouldn't want that to be a regular occurrence. I'm hoping for fewer distractions on the technical side of things, especially when I'm playing and mixing from the stage. I guess I'll let my own experiences with it guide me.

Though I was an early adopter of the x-air, it has mainly been for casual home use, and many things in my life fell off the radar when I moved this summer. I've only recently gotten back in the swing with a home workspace, so I'm looking forward to putting the x-air through its paces.

I use a Netgear 5g wireless router hard wired and mounted in the rack with the XR18 and wireless IEM transmitters and mic receivers. (I had to fabricate new rack ears to recess the XR18 so the those inputs and outputs could stay connected with the covers on without torturing the cables).
Lenovo T410 hard wired to router to run XAir edit, and USB connection to record via Audacity (Creating a build of Audacity with ASIO support is another issue).
Typically as many 6 iPads connected to control individual IEM mix. No issues with the hardware. Some issues with individuals tweaking something not on their AUX by mistake.
Using the XR18's internal router was not reliable at all with more than 1 device connected, let alone the max of 4.

A little OT, but i've been having trouble getting my Lenovo 2-in-1 to wake from sleep mode. Typically, on a gig I'd shut down all hibernation and automated sleep behavior, but it is nice to have that working at home. Any ideas? I may wind up bringing it back to see if Geek Squad can fix this, otherwise it may be returned for good. Too bad, b/c I like the machine. Maybe another vendor's model will behave properly.

Change power settings so that it doesn't go to sleep...

Everything that typically wakes any machine from sleep mode: swipe the screen, tap/swipe the mousepad and left/right click once, hit ESC, Enter, press the power button once. Nothing works until a hard re-start. I'm bringing the machine back to the vendor's tech support and if they can't figure it out I'm likely to get a similar machine that will wake from sleep...if one is available.
