mid March ETA. Placing an order now just gets you in line. I'm keeping my place since I have no immediate need for it, but will phase it in over time.
Please let us know what you think of it when it comes, I can't wait that long for it but would be interested in the future if I expand.
The information I got from Uli Behringer was that they are working diligently to get the XR18s shipped out and the X Air Edit program for PC/MAC will be released shortly, when it is released it will be on the Behringer website on the download page for the XR18 where the iOS and Android apps are already listed.

Just received word from Sweetwater that my XR18 X-Air has shipped. Not sure when I'll have a chance to fully put it through its paces on a gig, but I'll try ASAP. In the meantime, I'll do some home demo/testing with my little Android tablet, which has gone unused since I purchased it. I'll also be testing on my iPad2, Samsung Galaxy, and PC Laptop (assuming all of the editor/controller versions are up and available). I'm strongly considering getting a larger tablet as a control surface, but may also investigate one of the new Behringer X-touch Compact MIDI controllers (motorized faders-YUM!). Should be interesting!
Look forward to the review & hoping your devices run the X-air app better than mine did!
Nope, I was just tooling around with their app to see how it worked on both my LG G2 & Lenovo S tab. I've played around with the app for about 1 hour total & have had 3 crashes wiping out everything I did. Of course this was offline mode as I dont have a unit. What matters is what happens when talking between a unit... will the XR-18 re-orient the app to the last settings when the app fires back up?
Awesome! Can't wait, I'm in between this or the QU-16. The intermediate stuff with LCD screens & no faders (QU-PAC X32 rack) dont seem that practical in live applications. You're basically paying more just to have a very hard to use backup if the tablet goes down.
Oh no... we're getting feedback, go through the menus & change the monitor mixes with your one knob & a 5" screen !

idk, but on our X32 Producer it does, whether mixing FOH or using the IEM mixing app.
If you need knobs/sliders there's a midi jack - regular old midi
buy a controller with knobs, or a foot pedal and hook it up.

Or even your handheld device probably has a midi app you could hook to the midi input.
I don't know the Apps but you can probably hang a midi controller off the device running an app also.
The new announced controllers from Behringer look really nice. Initially, not needed here, but you can always expand.
That was the problem with ALL of the early digital boards too. Too many menus and too few knobs. I think there was a competition to see how many functions you could put behind each soft-knob.
I'm using an old Yamaha 01/V for a while with my band and I got used to it, but it's that same compromise between separate knobs for everything or 1 knob for everything.
I mixed old-school for decades - reach for the knob, in the dark, by instinct.
I'm hoping the touchscreen "world o' the future" get's me closer to knobs than to menus.
We'll see. I've been messing with the demos and there isn't all that much real estate on the tablet, so it's still 8 channels at a time or 1 effect on-screen.
I do like the idea of giving the players control of their mixes too. Everyone in our band has an iPad onstage for the setlists, lyrics, tempo... really handy. I'm hoping this is just one more use for them.
Seems like Presonus' "Wheel of More ME" is a smart UI, especially with the auto-dimming of other channels after a set level. I'll have to wait and see how the Behringer idea works.
$300 not too bad. Still trying to nab a QU-16 & then hell in a few years flip it if anything comes out thats significantly better or the bands needs change.
I downloaded the iPad app and the Android app and toyed around with each for quite a while last night. In offline mode, neither was notably buggy or crashed my device, though each had a somewhat different look and feel to their operation, layout, and exposed features. A couple things to note:
- I couldn't see if there was any way to assign the Aux sends as PRE or POST fader, or PRE/POST channel processing (gate, compression) to keep compression out of Aux fed monitor mixes.
- I didn't see any reference to MUTE groups, SUBGROUPS or VCA groups. I'm not sure if there is some sort of "matrix" control for all of this stuff lurking around, but to not have Subgroups with their own discrete EQ & Dynamics is a bit of a drag.
If I'm correct about this (let me know if I've missed something) I'm hoping for a firmware update sometime soon, much in the way Mackie did to address similar issues with the DL1608.
On the iPad app in setup edit you can group together channels in a DCA by dragging and dropping them on top of each other. No subgroups, no matrices. No mute groups AFAIK?
Ahhh... I didn't know that is how they handled DCA grouping. Interesting. But, that is to say the DCA group has no EQ/Dynamics processing of its own, right? I'll have to go back to a video I saw on the XR18 to refresh my memory on the features. NEED MUTE GROUPS!
In my preferred work flow, I like vocals to have a channel comp that barely ever engages to just shave 1 db or so off of the most aggressive passages, then send all vocals to a vocal subgroup with its own discrete levelling compression and mild EQ before hitting the Main L/R output. I also like to go PRE fader and PRE processing (no comp) in my monitor Auxes, though to be honest, I'm compressing so little on the channel strip that it is almost a moot point. I just like to have the ability to have my channels in the Aux send be stripped of anything to do with the Mains channel processing if possible.
