Behringer XR18 X-Air

I apologize in advance for my long wind. I have the xr18, I use two Bose L1 S1 with the B2s. I have a gig coming up and want use a powered sub in the aux, but it was suggested that I should use a crossover to keep the Bose from compressing the sound. I don’t know to set this up. Is there anyone here that can explain how to do this. Thanks for any help I can get.
 
Many powered subs have left and right inputs and left and right high-passed outputs. Use the inputs from your mixer and the outputs to your two Bose L1's. OTOH the B2's have a surprising amount of output - why do you think you need a powered sub? I played a gig with a nine piece R&B/Blues band last night with just a single B1 per side with the kick mic'd and me going direct (no amp) :wideyed:.

You are right about the BOSE but I need just a little more in the low end it can be felt a little more, R&B music. I’m not trying to get louder I just want a little fuller punchier low end from the kick and my bass. I will be using a amp so my rig will carry the room the sub will just give me more presence.

I am running a pair of Turbosound IP2000's systems. I also bring along 1 to 4 small EV powered 12" subs depending on the room. What iI do is set the high pass filter to about 50hz on the main outs. Then I aux feed the subs. They seem to roll off about 125hz but I use a lo pass filter on them in the Aux channel.

pardon me if I get my hi lo band pass mixed up term wise. :)

a "low-pass" filter cuts highs, a "high pass" filter cuts lows.

why don't they just call it a "low cut" filter or a "high cut" filter? that's what we use it for after all...

It doesn’t take too long for both terms to become instinctively synonymous.
 
My question isn’t about if I should use a crossover but how to set it up with the subs in the aux.
Crossover usually get L + R input and split the frequency ranges into the required ouputs.
If you have bi-amp tops, you'll need to know how low (freq) then go and how High the subs go.
Subs often cross from 80-120Hz (mine were set at 94, and I have others set at 106).
You'll need to set the xover freq point based on the speaker specs, adjust the filter type (LR,BW and freq slope - 12, 24, etc) and hook up the outputs to the speaker.
If you have a 2-way split, your xover freq might be 100 (to start). Based on listening, you made need to raise or lower that based on what you hear.
Everything below 100Hz will go to the subs and everything above to the tops.
If the tops are 2-way, the signal will again be split at whatever those xover specs are.

Yep. That’s approximately the bottom octave and a half. Plenty of energy down there. It’s kinda like those deep-sea nature shows, where they send drones with powerful lights and cameras way down further than man usually goes, and all of the sea life down there is strange and alien-looking. It’s like another world, with lots going on, and a whole different set of rules. :roflmao:

I actually split at 80hz! Most powered subs have built in xover networks around 100 and teh QUCkSub is a 100hz bandpass box and I find 100-110 just a bit high for my taste. I use a pair of QSC KW181 subs and K12 top boxes along with a DBX outboard stereo xover that allows a lot of flexibility of both xover point and top to bottom balance depending on the room.

I used 100 as an example.. I run my Yorkies around 86-92, while my EV's are around 104-106.
You have to look at the specs, but basically yeah.. the subs only handle 40 on up to the crossover point..
