Behringer

Bit of snobbery going on here guys? Look at the review in BassPlayer Mag this month. I've got a Europower EP2500 power amp, and it's built like a tank, reliable, and sounds10/10. It just doesn't have that snob value, but I'm not prepared to pay 3 x the price for that.

I've played through an all Berhinger PA and it sounded fine. Its just the amps/FX that I have issues with. My guitarists amp is the most unreliable and noisy amp I've ever seen (or heard). I think most of their PA stuff is decent though. However, they price that stuff a lot higher in comparison to other brands compared to their amps and FX. I use a Berhinger mixer to record. It works just fine, but it hasn't moved from its place for months either.

I am by no means a gear snob, I wouldnt be even If I had ultra-high-end gear. I am however a moral snob. I dotn buy Behringer gear because it sounds bad, the amps do (ime) but Id would have no problem with a mixer etc etc IF they wernt stolen from other people.

Go look at the Line 6 lower end combos, then the Behringer guitar combos, or a Mackie mixer and then the Behringer one.

This is yet another B thread thats going to be closed awful quick.

I got a Behringer BX3000T for $229.00. That's a 300w head for minimal dollar. It has a rating on Musiciansfriend (as well as other sites) averaginig 4.5 of 5 stars.

Now guys, I'm one to do my homework. I look up reviews, I call places up, I ask for advice from other bass players, and I have not heard one bad opinion on Behringer.

I don't know if I stepped into the Twilight Zone or I just plain don't know jack, but I've been playing for about 13 years and I'm pretty happy with my latest purchase (BX3000T). Now, I'm sure there is no comparison with the Edans, Ampegs, and SWRs of the world, but not all of us have the kind of money to dish out on high quality bass gear.

In summary, Behringer is the best bang for the buck. There really isn't any argument there. This is just coming from someone who has no ties with any company, but has done his research.

No, in my opinion Avatar cabs with a special deal Ashdown head or a Kustom Groovebass or Traynor YBA-200 would be the best bang for the buck. The special deal head coupled with the Avatar cabs wouldn't cost much more than the Berhinger.

Hellooooooo! There are half a dozen threads here with people noting how theirs went kaput. Just do a simple search Mr. Homework. ;)

If you don't think there is any argument, you DEFINITELY haven't done your research. Behringer threads have the most heated arguments of all . . . . and that's on MANY sites, not just this one . . . .

For that price you probably would have been wiser with a peavey or lower end ashdown amp

+ i dont think the amp is really the full 300watts, just ime tho

Im sure at roughly 150kHz, the amp puts out a respectable 300W. :rollno:

I pay no attention to reviews on those sites. They are all 'I bought this 2 minutes ago and it pWnz things 1000000000x times the price!'

Yes, you got a new toy, get over it, wait till you've gigged it for a few weeks or months, then take the time to review it properly if you want.

I'd say a cabinent falling apart is pretty unsided and accurate. How can you gig if the thing fell apart?

There are no absolutes my friend. Didn't your daddy tell you that growing up? I know mine did. Every person experiences something different. Perhaps I got lucky with my purchase. I've been gigging since you were in diapers and much more recently, with this Behringer. I can't personally say anything negative about them nor have I known anyone that can.

Unless, the people in this forum are just spewing out random generalizations because their bass head didn't survive a three story fall. That's just my opinion.

My guitarists V-amp 212 has been into the shop so many times you could say its American made.

Not on this one. I've had the chance to fool around with this particular head (a friend owns one), and the truth is, it does seem to perform to spec, and gives decent tones into a good cab.

It's easy to see why folks are taken with this head, given the price tag. But IMO, the real problems with Behringer are the frequent reports of reliability issues, the reverse engineering, and the warranty support (or lack thereof).

Just out of curiosity... has anyone reading this thread ever been able to get a Behringer product repaired under warranty? If you've been able to get it fixed for free by B, speak up...

Honest curiosity; I've never heard of that company handling a warranty claim to a customer's satisfaction....

Yes, I would like to retract the comments I made about the amps power. Ill be in Newcastle tomorrow, and I will make it a priority to test one of these out.

My experience with Behringer amps consists of:

Playing the combos quite a bit in the stores, and from this I gathered that the tone is quite good, nothing special, but definatly good enough. I would love to try them with a paper speaker though, Im reluctant to blame the mediocre tone on the aluminium cones, as Ive heard paper cones sound worse and aluminium cones sound better.

Also, one of my best friends had the 12" model. Again I felt satisfied but unpimpressed about the sound, but the model just seemed cheap. The pots were scratchy, and the grille got really beat up really quickly. (He takes good care fo his gear)

So there is my experience with B gear, its not much, but its quite a bit.

I'll say it again: my main gripe with Behringer is that its reverse engineered.

If your happy with your amp, and the moral issues dont bother you than great, this isnt sarcasm (for once ;) ) but its not too common to find people that are truly happy with what they have.

Also, its nice to see someone who doesnt mind getting slightly personal, too often people can be overly-sensitive, you know? :D All I ask is that you keep the England and momma jokes to yourself.

Haha.. Fair enough. Being a relative of one of my heroes, Winston Churchill, I wouldn't dream of making fun of old England. There's a reason you cats have survived on that little island for hundreds of years.

We're not saying all behringer stuff is bad . . . well, not quite, just thier bass amps, combo's, head's and cab's are all poor ime

Getting a cheap behringer mixer, so shall see how that does

The first time I became aware of issues with Behringer's reliability it involved one of their mixers. Heard stories from a local tech that "identical" Behringer mixers, purchased within a few weeks of each other, when opened had differing components in many spots. Same schematic, just whatever parts were found for the cheapest rate I guess. Dropped that mixer and got a Mackie SR 24/4 instead. Of course, I am now hearing that Mackie is starting to cut corners on their products too. Oh well....

PS: That is my only experience with Behringer so I am unable to speak to their bass amp lines.

I love it when I start such interesting and informative threads, really. The problem isn't that i'm a poor teenager or adult. The problem is I love buying gear and have used better setups (ashdown mag and avatar 10's and 15's). The problem is I just ordered a new Geddy Lee and can't justify paying any more than I have to for an extra practice amp I can throw into the back of my truck and not have my wife divorce me. I do appreciate all the great feedback, though. I think I will give the Behringer a shot. If it blows up on me I will be back here and apologize to my fellow TBers.
