being a teenager..........

I bought a Razr, ALembic Series 1, Warwick thumb NT, Lakland 44-02 D, Ipod nano, and a BUNCH of other things with the income of a teenager (being a teenager). My parents think it's good :-p... But yeah, don't be like me.. Save your money. I've spent like 6000$ this year so far.. :-\

He is complaining that his parents tell him to spend his money on the things he wants but then they b**ch at him for it.

thank you thats what i ment to get thru i dont mind paying for bills, food, car ins, ect but i just wanted some feedback from the PARENTS out there and see what they would advise. but i did talk my dad into letting me buy a razr. i just dont think they can see spending 1000 bucks on a bass. i relized that while pumping my gas just a sec ago (i pay for that too). but i can mess arounf with my amp and bass and get close to rick sound. but ill keep the money and use it when i need to becuase theres some of you that dont have a cell phone, a car, a bass, a nice head. so im great ful (actually i wouldnt have this stuff if it wasnt for me busting my tale off and buying all of that) but still i jsut wanted to know why they think like that.

note: i dont do drugs so theres no money going towards that nasty stuff.

What do you do? I want your job...

I make about $6,000 - $7,000 a year. And most of that goes to pay for things to keep me alive.

I finally understood my parents when I moved out, bought a company, bought a house, got married, had a son, accumulated a substantial debt . . .

I'm sure I sound like any parent now. I suggest to my 11 year old that he start saving now so that he doesn't have to work until he's 79+. He's got a paper route and walks the neighbours dog. Making more money at 11 than I did at that age. I think I can get out of the rat race at 55 but it won't be easy.

Being a teenager sucks because it's supposed to. Otherwise we all would still live at home and go to Jr high perpetually. Suck it up, pretty soon you will be bitching about something else.

good point. thats what life is , when ur young u bitch because u not old enuf to do grown up things, then u get a little older and bitch because too much is expected of u. consider being young a blessing. just wait till ur on yer own and all ur bills come in at once,, then u get married and bills double then u have kids,,then bills triple..how much music equipment do u think u'll be able to afford then?

I am a parent 39 yrs old to 2 kids, 1 teen and an 8 yr old. Here is my advice. First, ask your parents what they think of your bass playing. They are going to say you play very good. (they will support you). Tell them you want to take your playing one step further. But before you can, you need to sell / trade your old bass equipment for (what ever you want).
This is going to show your parents that you are willing to make a sacrifice (for the good). Tell them its an investment to buy good equipment and hopefully with that you can get into a band and start to make extra money playing. (or something truthful and similar) Also tell them the old stuff will be good for a beginner to learn on so it wont be to difficult to sell.

That is exactly what I told my parents when I wanted a professional drumset at 14 yrs old. They bought me that set and I still play it today.

Good Luck

its ur money, spend it now because tomorow it wont be there...

i want to say enjoy life now because it will end soon.. but it wont end soon lol

teenage life is the time u make mistakes... and non-mistakes(?) buy enough stuff to keep u content and save the rest... i recently bought a new bass.. used.. and im very content with it.. and because my first bass sucked and my mom broke my second bass she didnt complain much that i spent $300 on it.. especially when it was $500 new :)

so yea.. save money, and spend money.. u earn it to enjoy it.. but not to blow it.. help ur parents out too a bit so they wont bitch.. do some grocery shoping or take them out to dinner or something

Looks to me like your parents want you to learn how to be thrifty so you won't be asking your kids for a loan in 15 years. :D

Seriously....my dad was able to retire a little early because him and my mom were smart when they were younger. It's confusing to you today, but you'll get it when you're 40. By "get it", I mean get the idea of saving cash.

I'm 21 and make almost $30,000 and I can't even afford to live by myself! THe Rent in South Florida is so bad, the capital formed a committee to try and fix the problem!! ... I pay for EVERYTHING I consume, use, drive, whatever. Here's the thing I don't understand you asked daddy if you can get a Razr. Why do you need that expensive phone? I have a V550 and it works great!
I'm sorry. for somebody who makes $600 a month and can afford a Geddy Lee... You have a pretty good life kit! As I said before I make almost 30k and I can't afford a Geddy! Save your money. The economy is nuts. I pay $60 a week in gas... 'nuff said.
