being a teenager..........

Most of you get a big fat "whatever" from me.

It's not like the kid ever said anything along the lines of "being a teenager sucks because my parents won't buy me things." His parents said "if you want stuff, get a job".

So he got a job. He earns his money. If you want to begrudge him for living with his parents and taking pop-tarts from the pantry, then you need to be a little less bitter. That's what teenagers do. They live with their parents and eat their food. He's not ungrateful, just confused. And if you're giong to get all sanctimonious about how you've been living in boxcars since you were fourteen or whatever BS you need to claim to make yourself out as the tougher person, than, as I said before, "Whatever".

His parents said "if you want to spend money, go earn it", and he did, and now they're giving him a hard time about spending money, and he's thinking "***?" That's understandable. He's young and confused.

But he'll never be at an age again where his income is completely disposable, and the couple hundred dollars he saves now in his teenage years will be a pretty insignificant drop in the bucket considering the rest of his fiscal life. If he wants to buy his dream bass, now is a fine time to buy it.

Perhaps *threadstarter* you should consider talking to your parents about some sort of saving plan? Something simple like putting 25% or 50% of what you earn away and spend whats left on whatever you like?

it really really sucks.....first my parents tell me i have to get a job because the stuff i want (basses, electronics, ect) they arent going to buy. so i got a job, i bring in about 600 a month, and well i have my own bank account, and well yea i have cell phone bill and car insurance but sence i was first bitten buy the bass buy i wanted a rick so i started to save, well now i have more than enough and they tell me that i should save my money (and i guess not buy the things i want). so they flipped when i bought me a new geddy lee jazz bass and a new g/k head. now i want a new motorola razr (my dad just got one) and they flippen out about that now. i used to have a 64 galaxie and well any time i spend more than $5 on it they would flip so i sold it. it seems like the things that i buy and dont tell them about they never notice, well i tried that with my geddy. what should i do???? i got this job so i can buy me stuff that i want, but it seems like they dont want me to spend my money, but when they need a loan they dont care if i "spend" money, i dont understand please help me!!!!!!!!!

Get used to it, they pay for your food, they pay for your shelter, live by their rules. My parents used to be the same way, they'll grow out of it and so will you.

I used to buy and sell so many basses they swore I was selling drugs, but I was profiting, so they soon let me start making my own decisions financially. BAD IDEA. I'm $700 in credit card debt, have crazy gear that I can hardly afford and am in college with a $120 paycheck every 2-3 weeks.

Trust me, you're lucky. I've found the bare minimums work for me, a $50 Samsung cell phone (not state of the art, more gadgets than you need in a size you'll break or lose like the Razr) and trust me, don't get things the second they're on the market.

Just because you have a job doesn't mean you should spend every cent. I did and I regret it. I've worked almost every day of my life since I legally could. Grossed about $18K in four and a half years and have nothing to show for it but a GK rig, a Fender bass, a couple keyboards, 18 year old car and a few other things. I wasted my money because I thought like you and still have credit card debt.

Being a kid sucks, trust me, being an adult sucks more.

I don't speak much on this forum, usually just read... ( I'm a ninja ) I've been following this thread from start... been wondering why everyone is completely bashing the poor guy (other then the fact it's the fun thing to do to teenagers)

I think 3/4's of the ones who have posted on here should re-read and re-read this post again. Life stories are nice and all, but not needed. Few have answered in helping out w/ the topic of the confusion w/ the parents.

Fact of the matter is that without them he'd have nothing.

He owes it to them to respect their requests.

I think it was meant that he earns the the money he works for....

I think he realizes w/o them he'd have nothing...

He has respected their requests, he has gotten a job, he's buying the items he wants w/ his own money which is what his parents have wanted him to do... yet they give him a confusingly difficult time when he goes through with the whole process. How has he dis-respected them? Is it okay to vent once in a while?
