Ben Affleck to play Batman

One Direction and the Jonas Bros earn millions too...doesn't make it palatable. I just don't think Affleck is right. Has he ha good movies? Yes. Would I like to see him actually pull it off? Yes. But as others have stated, his boyish charm belies what the character is all about.

Another thing...

Forbes is the first mention that the next superman flick will be a "vs Batman". This changes things even more and means Affleck will have even bigger shoes to fill, as the title (according to Forbes) implies a very major role.

Grow a beard, sport a 70's hairdo and sports jacket with elbow pads, direct a film where hollywood saved the world and you too could suddenly be a neo-hipster intellectual/genius director type with indie cred.


How any of that translates into my argument for anyone but Affleck is beyond me.

I just watched the Daredevil movie again in the light of this discussion. Yes, in some ways it sucked, but that was more to do with the writing and the direction than it was to do with Ben Affleck's performance.

People getting bent out of shape about this casting decision seems to be a classic example of "first world problems", imo. Relax a bit.

You have a good point. It seems that when Kevin Smith attaches his name to a superhero flick, it sucks waaaaay more than when he's making comedies about shop clerks.

IIRC, the comics you mentioned were used as inspiration for the recent Chris Nolan trilogy.
At least I heard a lot of talks regarding those comics playing into the storylines.

It's either going to be surprisingly awesome or as dreadful as we all imagine.

In his defense:

He was good in Argo, and his character was serious, and kind of dark like Batman.

Physically he was pretty ripped in The Town. If he can get into that kind of shape with a few more lbs of muscle, he could look the part.

Lets just hope his buddy Matt Damon can give him a few pointers on how to be a badass like he was in the Bourne movies.

I just don't think Hollywood realizes the awesome potential that a Dark Night Returns that is true to Frank Miller's has. Yes, it obviously played into the trilogy (specifically the final scene of the last film), but there is some seriously good writing there.

Even Death In The Family (when joker kills the second Robin with a crowbar and blows him up) would be great movie fodder. I think they play it up for the toy franchise...meaning that kids have to be able to see it to want the merchandise. That's the exact reason why I dislike the X-Men films...way too "puppy dog". Hugh Jackman can never do Wolverine justice if he's playing him like a softy. The comic wolverine was downright bloodthirsty and killed MANY opponents without intervention from the other X-turds where the story didn't need it.


That's right, I said Jackman's wolverine sucks.

DiCaprio would make a better Riddler than Joker I feel.

Also I think your comment about Affleck's depth is ... misguided at best; and based on his work from nearly a decade ago, or more.
