Hi everyone
So, what is the general consensus of the 'best' overall micro/mini amp to pair with the AE212?
Im definitely leaning towards getting one, and I currently have the LM3, (and RH450) but am I better pairing it with a Shuttle 9.0 or Markbass F500?
Thanks
After reading a few posts from TBers that some of the SMPS-type amps have had challenges with certain voltage conditions (and mostly because I get bored easily), I decided to buy a small, lighter-weight traditional amp as a backup to my Shuttle 9.0's. Since no Walkabouts were available at the time I bought, I decided to get one of the Eden Time Traveler 405's that are selling at a pretty good price on Ebay, now that the amp has been discontinued.
Yesterday it arrived! I hooked it up to my AE212s, and it sounded FANTASTIC (and OMG loud)! Lots of power, great clarity, and the super compressor that's been so popular with users of this amp. After a terrible experience with a WT-1205, this China-made amp is a real pleasure! It's rated at 405 watts into 4 ohms, and something like 625 watts into 2 ohms. Like the Walkabout, this amp sounds much louder than its specs imply.
Best of all, its a non SMPS amp that's still pretty light-weight! If it holds up over time, I'll really be pleased with this impulse-purchase!
