Bergantino B/Amp at NAMM

Jim, have the Bamp and enjoying it as I have with all your products. Have a question. Using two HD112's and driving it into compression routinely. The pre gain is about 10 to 11 o'clock. Master at noon. Active bass but the output is matched to my passive bypass volume. The pre gain in the menu is set to low. Please advise how I might restructure my gain to avoid constant compression.

Doug,

Are you clipping the amp or input stage at all? Are either the OL or Clip Led's coming on? Also, if with the pre gain set at 10-11:00, and you're just below getting the OL Led to come on, you should have the Instrument Level in the program menus set to Hi,meaning your bass has a high output. Other than that, if you're using an active bass, just make sure the battery is ok. A weak batter can sound fine at lower volumes, but as you turn it up, or play harder, it will start to clip sooner due to the lower voltage rail of the weaker battery, causing compression, and usually some kind of distortion as well.

Hi Jim thanks for checking in. I will set the internal gain to Hi instead of low. Yes the OL ad clip light have been blinking. The amp never distorts, ever. It sounds like there is compression kicking in and it prevents things from getting ugly but limits my overall gain. Sometimes I need a lot of power on tap for outdoor stages. The batteries are fresh and I check the voltage just to make sure. I'm using custom basses often with passive settings and Nordstrand jazz pickups, they have healthy output. I have been learning to appreciate a relatively flat eq setting and pushing the amp up to required level and making minor EQ adjustments from there, so there is never excessive low freq's being demanded from the outset. By the way I keep getting requests by bands to bring all Bergantino gear to the stage when I get booked :) Keep up the good work.

I do have programmed into the DSP a limiter to keep you from blowing up speakers (or at least trying to keep you from doing that ;-} ) and to keep the amp from sounding "ugly" as you put it. Playing outdoors, as you know, can put a lot more requirements on your amplification system depending on the PA support you have.

Bergantino B|Amp v1.3A Free Software Update - New Features.

Version 1.3A has the following changes/upgrades to versions 1.1 and 1.2.

1. Tone Control gains are now in 0.5db increments instead of 1db increments.

2. Added new program menu item, "Tone Control Q Select", which now allows you to select between a wide, medium, or narrow Q for the tone control filters. Version 1.2's Q is wide for reference purposes.

3. When saving a bright engage to Mem1 or Mem2 along with tone control settings, it currently only saves whether or not bright is enabled, not the actual frequency and gain. This means it would always load the current bright filter parameters into the DSP with any Mem recall, which may or may not have been the one you intended when saving the settings to one of the Mem locations in the first place. In rev 1.3, it will save the frequency and gain of the bright filter at the same time as all the tone filter parameters, allowing you to have two different bright settings in each Mem location for different instruments or tonal preferences.

4. Lowers temperature threshold approx. 10% to engage fan sooner.

5. Found and eliminated software bug which may have occasionally caused the UI to lock up requiring a power recycle.

6. Eliminated any potential popping noise when Mute is engaged.

Loaded up the new update. When I get to "Instrument level" I have noticed it 'pops' rather loudly, when changing from 'Lo' to 'Hi' and there's a noticeable hum when in the 'Lo' position, both of which weren't there before.

Did anyone here go from an IP system to a B|amp ?
My geeky side likes the idea of the B|Amp but I can't say my current setup really lacks anything.
I use the IP for its sheer brutal force and transparence, to amplify my tone in a loud and accurate way.
I don't really need the preamp options.

Not me BUT I would still comment that the preamp on the B/Amp is FanFrickingTastic. Best neutral tone set flat ever. EQ filters user definable: unbeatable.
