Not sure that's universal, but I'll agree it applies to me.
Yeah, but would you really want to be in a band that thought you were great just because of your gear?
OTOH, that might be better than a band who thought I was great because of my skill on the bass, although I firmly believe my skill justifies my acquisition of nice bass gear. (if you noticed that the second "skill" was less specific than the first, well, ... )

I'm trying to install the version 3.0 on my recently acquired B|Amp. It currently has the 1.2 software.
After registering the unit, I receive an email with detailed instructions, .hex file and PDFs.
In the email instructions, it says to rename the .hex file from bampfw_3.0.hex to bampfw.hex. The email instructions clearly state to do so in lower case.
On page 23 of the B|Amp PDF Rev2 owner's manual (included with the hex file), it says to rename it Bampfw.hex.
To does of you who have successfully completed the upgrade, how did you rename the file?
In the email instructions, it state to hold the Prog button, turn the amplifier ON and keep holding the Prog button until the green LED lights.
In the PDF: hold the PGM button, turn the amplifier ON and keep holding the PGM button until the green LED starts flashing.
To does of you who have successfully completed the upgrade, green LED turns on AND release or green LED start flashing AND release?
I have more questions but, let start with these two.

I'm using a MacBook Pro to format my thumb drive. I use the Disk Utility application and format the USB drive in MS-DOS (FAT), the scheme selected is GUILD Partition Map.
Apple users who successfully upgraded your B|Amp, is that how you have formatted your thumb drive?

Renaming the file as bampfw.hex on your FAT32 thumb drive is correct. Also, as I noted earlier, the instructions are correct as written; but, the Prog LED lights almost instantly on power up. So, you can release the Prog button almost right away, as long as the Prog LED is on. You don't have to wait for anything else. It really is that simple. I usually wait until the thumb drive stops flashing. Then recycle your power and you should be good. Hope that helps.

I've rename the file as bampfw.hex on my FAT32 formated thumb drive (that was the first thing I've tried and clearly detailed in John Files's email).
I've inserted in the USB drive of the B|Amp, push and hold the Prog button and turn on the power.
In less than two seconds, all the LEDs turns on and when the fan starts, the Protect LED turn off. The display is lit (every other LEDs stay lit) and it stays like this "forever" (blank display).
Instructions mention in the email stated that it should take 8 seconds to upgrade but, if I leave it on (like yesterday, over an hour... hold the Prog for 3 minutes before releasing it). The unit remains that way and when I turn it OFF and restart the unit, I'm still at Version 1.2.
I bought the unit from the only AD in the province and he assured me that he had updated it to the latest upgrade so customers can experience the B|Amp with all its capabilities before buying it. Obviously, he was lying through his teeth (since it a Version 1.2).
The first time that I tried to upgraded to Version 3.0, dust came flying from the ventilation holes on the sides and back of the unit. It was the first time that the fan operated since I purchased it (Tuesday evening).
On the other hand, the B|Amp (w/t Version 1.2) with my HDN112 cab sound absolutely glorious. It's impressive but, can't figure out why I can upgrade every gizmo in the house except this amp, I'm running out of ideas.
I've even reset the unit to factory default (hence my question last night about the Filters green LED staying on) twice.
On the other hand, my "new" unit came missing the USB port cover, could there be an issue with the USB input? I've just turn on the unit with no thumb drive but holding the Prog button and the result is exactly as described in my 3rd paragraph.
I guess I'll have to get in touch with Jim to figure it out.

I've tried it with bampfw and Bampfw.
Are you suggesting that I tried without the extension (.hex, which from my understanding, would make a firmware/software upgrade impossible and technically, would require me to replace by something else after the dot) or, without the capital "B"?
Either way, I've tried both (b & B) but to no avail. Part of me is wondering if I'm properly formatting the thumb drive but, FAT32 has been around for decades.
I've even tried using a different USB key. My laptop is detecting both keys, says the format is FAT32 and shows me the upgrade (I've wipe both keys clean, there's no other file aside the B|Amp software upgrade).
We had a PC at home in 1982, am I missing something obvious?
I'm wondering if, for some reason, the USB input is not detecting the thumb drive or, which make less sense but might be a reason why, jumping from Version 1.2 to Version 3.0 is too big of a gap.

We've had a few instances (in Canada believe it or not) where it was the compatibility of the thumb drive itself. It would be worthwhile purchasing a newer thumb drive and going from there. And it's no problem going from 1.2 to 3.0.

Well for starters, our USB flash drives are not NSA approved.

As I've got a B-amp in coming. .... does it have profiles for older Berg cabs?
I've got an AE410 & a NV215 love them both and use them both regularly.
It wouldn't be a game changer if they're not included - for me. ... but it'd be nice .
Just having the drives and comp will be great for my uses.

After 11 thumb drives, from old ones/recent ones to brand new one, USB 3.0, 16G to 64G, mine, girlfriend and borrowed from my neighbor... I'm still stuck at Version 1.2.
The USB port seems to be working because on some drives with LED on them, they blink when I go to the motion.
Do you have any other files on these thumb drives. Jim has said that the amp can get confused if there are other files on the drive. Also, you have to format for FAT32
All drives have been wipe clean, formatted in FAT32 and a single file was on, Version 3.0 renamed bampfw.hex (every single time, multiple times).
The AD is useless/clueless so, I have less than 48 hours to make my mind if I want to return it.
I really don't know what else I can try. In respect to Jim's products, I got the feeling that my situation is the exception. By logic, my problem seems to hovers around the USB port/USB flash drive.
Someone is not talking or, someone is not listening.
To tell the truth, I'm not even interested in the compressor/fuzz effects that this upgrade offer. They might be amazing but, I play clean 95% of the time. Version 1.2 with my HDN112 profile selected is impressive.
I'm already sold.
My nickel (we don't have pennies here in Canada), Jim might have tap in the future of bass amplifier design... just like Apple change the face of the mobile phone with the iPhone.

Ugh. Sorry to hear that. I'm also not using the effects; but, that is frustrating. Perhaps, you might try sending Jim a PM. He's pretty responsive

Sorry to hear about all your difficulties with the upgrade. If you could email me at [email protected], I will send you a new file just in case the file itself somehow got corrupted enroute to you. I did have one customer where this happened. Another quick thought that came to mind is you most likely received the firmware upgrade along with the instructions to load it and a pdf one sheet instructing how to use the compressor as part of a zip file. Make sure that the bampfw.hex file is not located within a folder on the thumb drive.
And finally, even if you don't use the effects or compressor, this upgrade still has some features added over your current version which you may find useful.
Anyway, let's get this upgrade sorted out.
