Best amp for Hofner

Which Faux Vox head has the GK in it?

The one sitting atop the large cabinet.

I want to get those fab trolleys that johnk_10 has!

I'm quite partial to my 30 Watt Supro Thunderbolt Clone through a TL-606 Cabinet. I have also used a Dr.Z Prescription ES through the TL-606 and it is very Beatles-ish.

As for the Contemporary vs. Icon vs. German, debate. I have a '63 Re-Issue 500/1 and I love it I played the Contemporary and the Icon and found the feel of both to be a little off, much like a Squire CV 60's P-bass to a '62 Re-Issue P-Bass. All a great instruments and in the right hands will all sound fantastic. Would I spend $2K on a new German Hofner, No Way!!!. I traded my 1963 Bassman Clone for mine, about a grand in actual value.

I have used my Hofner bass on several recording..it might be my best bass I own for recording....

I recently used my newly acquired Hofner Icon Club to record a demo and we were all very pleased with how well it recorded. I had the option of using the studio's early '60s J but we all agreed that the Icon sounded better. The engineer wanted to know where he could get one.

Can anyone talk to the finishes on the icons, ignitions, tursers? I've been considering these 3 and looking at new ones and they are all quite bright colors. The Turser is very bright yellow and the edge of the burst is thin, esp on the back. The hofner is orange. Is that how all the new ones are? Do they eventually become muted or are you stuck with the original color? Is it better to buy a used one? (My bandmate has a Turser 12 years old... head stock is brown not black, body, more muted.) I'd love to get one like that and have been scouring the sites and stores around New York City area, and nothing. Help?

I've have use alot of different amps over the years my hofner is a 66
and my experience is that the bass does hold a special
quality to it no matter what you play it through.y
these days I'm using a harke kickback as moniter on stage and
going to the pa out front.its a great bass and easy on the
back for you older rockers

Sorry for the exhumation, but I'm finding myself in the same boat a few years later and there are a few new amps that exist now (and McCartney is not playing a Mesa anymore afaik!)

Without having to carry 250 lbs of gear to a gig, is it just one of those new Ashdown ABM lightweight C115 amps? Not joining a tribute band, just after an amp that will make my Hofner sound like what I expect all Hofners to sound like... (maybe it has a thing or two to do with the round-wound strings that came from the factory...)

Also, RE: Tursner/Epi/Douglas/Rouge, am I correct to assume they all have center-blocks? I am having trouble finding info (except that the Epi weighs more so I assume that has the block). I am thinking of putting a piezo under the bridge of mine for when I want an upright-sound. I can't seem to use the neck pickup solo, it hums... sure looks like a hum bucker, what can I say?? Mine is not the Icon, its the Ignition (updated? who knows...) and has the jubilee paint job (union jack).

If anyone else has one of these, let me know if it seems any different from other Hofners (this is the 2nd jubilee I got, the first one had a screwed neck so I got the store to get another shipped in. afaik there aren't really any more left in retail). I'm not above trying to re-sell it and get a club if that's where the sound is at, that's why I got the limited version :-)

Thanks for any further talk on the matter!!
